I'm a little embarrassed by this and having a total brain fart.
I understand:
(6 * 10^3) + (3 * 10^2) + (5 * 10^1) + (7 * 10^0) = 6000 + 300 + 50 + 7 = 6357

But for some reason I can't get this:
(1 * 2^3) is equal to 8.
So this is what you are reall9y asking about- why 1*2^3= 8?

1*2^3= 1*(2*2*2)= 1*(2*(2*2)). 2*2= 4 so that becomes 1*(2*4). 2*4= 8 so that becomes 1*8= 8.

(1 * 2^3) + (0 * 2^2) + (1 * 2^1) + (1 * 2^0) = 8 + 0 + 2 + 1 = 11
Yes 10112 is 1*8+ 0*4+ 1*2+ 1= 11 base 10.
