AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the perceived limitations of archaeology in establishing historical facts. Participants express a consensus that archaeology is a somewhat ineffective tool for proving historical narratives. Two specific quotes are highlighted: one suggesting that archaeology serves merely as a supplement to history, and another asserting that archaeology is too imprecise to disprove historical texts. The conversation also touches on the existence of more extreme views that seek to diminish archaeology's role further. A call for credible sources to support these claims is made, leading to a suggestion that the thread be closed due to a lack of reputable evidence.

Archaeology is a bit of a clumsy tool when it comes proving historical facts. I believe that we can all agree with that.

However, there are some people who are even more extremist in their views and want Archaeology to be of a much lower status.

I am curious if you guys agree with the 2 quotes below?

1. "Archaeology is only a supplement to History."

2. "Archaeology is not only clumsy, it cannot be used to disprove historical textual evidence."

Just ONCE, I wanted to see a post titled Status Update that was not a blatant, annoying spam post by a new member. So here it is. Today was a good day here in Northern Wisconsin. Fall colors are here, no mosquitos, no deer flies, and mild temperature, so my morning run was unusually nice. Only two meetings today, and both went well. The deer that was road killed just down the road two weeks ago is now fully decomposed, so no more smell. Somebody has a spike buck skull for their...
