Today is September, 9, 2009 or 9/9/09 which, if it weren't for that irritating little zero, would be 9/9/9, and thereby would have been an important coincidence and trivia fact of some note. Nothing like this has happened since August 8, last year. Here are some amazing facts about the number nine to fool your friends with.

9 is the largest single digit number in the decimal system.
9 is the smallest odd number that isn't a prime, except for 1 and all the negative odd numbers.
9 is the smallest odd square integer, except for 1.
9 is 6 upside down, which means that 9/9/09 upside down is 60/6/6, somewhat like the number of the beast.
9 is the number of planets if you count Pluto.
9 times 9 is 81, and 8 plus 1 is 9.
9 is the number of the best cloud.
9 is the official integer of the Beatles White album.
9 is the number of fun facts if you count this one.

Life would be dull indeed without this seemingly mundane, yet odd, integer.

Yes, nine has a lot of interesting properties, like:

1+8=9
2+7=9
3+6=9
4+5=9
5+4=9
6+3=9
7+2=9
8+1=9

Fascinating indeed - whichever way you try, it gives 9.

999=33*37 - to make three nines, we need three threes and a seven thrown in, which as we know is a lucky number.

.The third square and therefore the sum of two consecutive triangular numbers 9=3+6
.Written as 100 in base 3
.The only square that is the sum of two consecutive cubes 9=1 cubed +2 cubed
.The 4th lucky number, and the first square lucky number apart from 1
.9=1!+2!+3!
.The smallest Kaprekar number apart from1.9 squared=81 and 8+1=9
.There are nine regular polyhedra, the 5 Platonic solids and the 4 Kepler Poinsot stellated polyhedra.
.9 is the smallest numberof distinct integral squares into which a rectangle may be divided. The smallest solution is 32 by 33 and the squares have sides 1,4,7,8,9,10,14,15and 18.
.No in German is pronounced nine(Sorry I wanted to make 9 points)

Actually, it could be written in this manner - 09/09/09.

But then we would be at a complete loss to know which 09 was for the year, month, and date. At least with 9/9/09, some of that confusion is reduced.

I attempted to post at 09:09:09 on 09/09/09, but my computer wasn't fast enough.

I was born at 10:10 on 10/10/1959 - the 10th year of the decade.

Somehow my lucky number is 812?

But,

1 is the lonliest number.

As a kid, I was fascinated by the number four, and geometric representations of groups of 4 in 2 and 3 dimensions. Unfortunately, I missed the chance to celebrate on 04/04/04, so I'll just have to wait for it to come around again.

AFAIR I have managed to remember to celebrate my 10,000th day  but I forgot the 15,000th

Next nice occasion will be in 2017.

Darn! 20,000 slipped by me. Well, at least I can shoot for 21,000 in a little over 5 weeks.

Wow, that's just amazing. That can't be a coincidence!
Don't forget this remarkable fact: nine is 10 in base 9, but 9 modulo 10... !

You're a little late on this 9/9/9 thing; it happened two thousand years ago. There's nothing significant about 9/9/2009.
No problem though, just wait exactly 7990 years and catch that one.

Why? What's going to happen in 7990 years that didn't happen this year?

We had our 999999 celebration at 9:09:09 this morning. We did make a compromise and celebrated at 9:09 local time instead of 9:09 Zulu.

Yes, it was. We spent more time eating nine-ingredient Chex mix, eating nine of each type of pastry, etc than we did celebrating with "Woohoo!".

On the other hand, we did get an early start planning our 10/10/10 10:10:10 celebration, a topic that got the computer geeks all excited about something called binary day.

I was out on the trails this morning and I saw birds, butterflies, one frog in the pond, a deer, trees... but no nines.

Are you sure the trail you were on was one of sincerity? The nines only appear on the most sincere trails. And are you sure you didn't accidentally show a lack of faith? The smallest slip of the tongue ("if" the nines appear vs "when" the nines appear) can doom you.

And are you sure today is the 9th? It can be very embarrassing to realize you've missed it completely, but it does occasionally happen. Don't feel bad. There's always ... uh ... well maybe you should feel bad.

Shouldn't that be "WhenEver!"?

It's a good thing that we don't have 11 toes. Well - at least most of us don't.
