Discussion Overview

The discussion explores the concept of whether humans can be considered merely programmed entities, akin to robots, and examines the implications of this idea on free will, personality, and existence. The scope includes philosophical reasoning and conceptual clarification.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested, Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • One participant suggests that humans are "Living Robotic Droids," asserting that all actions are the result of programming from the beginning, influenced by a creator.
  • Another participant challenges this view, stating that the assertion does not compute, implying disagreement with the notion of humans as merely programmed beings.
  • A third participant finds the idea absurd, indicating a strong opposition to the initial claim.
  • A later reply proposes a more nuanced perspective, arguing that while actions may not be solely determined by programming, they are the inevitable consequences of previous occurrences, suggesting a complex interplay between determinism and free will.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express disagreement regarding the characterization of humans as programmed entities, with multiple competing views on the nature of human actions and free will remaining unresolved.

Contextual Notes

The discussion reflects varying interpretations of determinism and free will, with some participants relying on different definitions of programming and its implications for human behavior.

Well, we were made by another being. We, as Humans, have created Robots. Someone made US. We are living, reproducing entities, created by another. I say we are, for lack of better terminology, Living Robotic Droids. I think that we are PROGRAMMED from the beginning. I say that ALL of our actions are the result of this Programming. Our sensors (senses) detect something and we React accordingly. We are Egoists in that we think we are free thinkers. I disagree. I think that each of us have Programmed into us our individual Personality traits, but still, we are acting Robotically.
I say that our Lives and each of our destinies are a Result of our Programming. The God's are having fun, even experimenting with us. That's my opinion. Oh, if we aren't the above, then just what are we?

That does not compute.

Now, that is absurd.

Is it?

I wouldn't say that all our actions are determined by programming, a.k.a. genes, but our actions are all the inevitable consequences of previous occurences.
