Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the perceived motivations and agendas of neoconservative groups, particularly focusing on the Project for the New American Century (PNAC) and its influence on U.S. foreign policy. Participants explore the implications of these agendas in relation to American interests and the broader geopolitical landscape.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants suggest that a neoconservative clique is attempting to involve the U.S. in wars that do not serve American interests, as articulated by Patrick J. Buchanan.
  • One participant questions the motivations behind U.S. actions in Iraq, referencing a direct challenge posed by Tim Russert to Richard Perle regarding the connection between American security interests and Israel.
  • Another participant expresses a belief that the intentions of the PNAC are clear and that their plans are publicly available, arguing against the dismissal of these views as conspiracy theories.
  • A repeated sentiment emphasizes the transparency of the PNAC's agenda, suggesting that their published materials provide insight into their worldview and strategies.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants appear to have differing views on the nature and implications of the PNAC's agenda, with some asserting clarity in its intentions while others may question the validity of these interpretations. The discussion remains unresolved with multiple competing perspectives present.

Contextual Notes

Limitations include potential biases in interpreting the motives of the PNAC and the reliance on specific sources that may not represent a comprehensive view of U.S. foreign policy.

A neoconservative clique seeks to ensnare our country in a series of wars that are not in America’s interest.

by Patrick J. Buchanan

The War Party may have gotten its war. But it has also gotten something it did not bargain for. Its membership lists and associations have been exposed and its motives challenged. In a rare moment in U.S. journalism, Tim Russert put this question directly to Richard Perle: “Can you assure American viewers ... that we’re in this situation against Saddam Hussein and his removal for American security interests? And what would be the link in terms of Israel?”

Do you find it interesting? If so, why? What are your thoughts on the matter? What is your opinion? Can you substantiate your opinion?

I personally think it is obvious what is going on. And, of course, you can't cry "conspiracy theory" when they(the PNAC, which pretty much is the Bush administration) publish their exact plans and worldview in print and online.
