AI Thread Summary
Alitalia has canceled 40 flights due to a four-hour strike organized by a small union opposing a rescue plan that includes longer working hours, layoffs, and cuts to routes and aircraft. This situation highlights the airline's struggle for survival amid union resistance to the proposed terms by potential investors. The ongoing strikes in Italy raise concerns for the government, with some suggesting that the current fuel crisis may ultimately benefit the European aviation market by eliminating weaker national airlines and paving the way for budget carriers like Ryanair and EasyJet to thrive. There is also a desire expressed for similar market dynamics to occur in the U.S. airline industry.

ROME — Bankrupt Alitalia canceled 40 flights Wednesday after a small union called a four-hour strike against a rescue plan, as hundreds of workers protested at Rome's main airport. The Italian airline is fighting for its survival as unions balk at accepting terms of the rescue plan by potential investors, including longer hours, layoffs and reductions in routes and in the number of aircraft.

This sure must be a worry for the Italian government.

Italy has more assinine strikes than any other country I am aware of. When I dated a guy there it seems there were constant train strikes, trucking strikes where they would block public roads, it seemed that there was always someone striking.

Just ONCE, I wanted to see a post titled Status Update that was not a blatant, annoying spam post by a new member. So here it is. Today was a good day here in Northern Wisconsin. Fall colors are here, no mosquitos, no deer flies, and mild temperature, so my morning run was unusually nice. Only two meetings today, and both went well. The deer that was road killed just down the road two weeks ago is now fully decomposed, so no more smell. Somebody has a spike buck skull for their...
Thread 'In the early days of electricity, they didn't have wall plugs'
Hello scientists, engineers, etc. I have not had any questions for you recently, so have not participated here. I was scanning some material and ran across these 2 ads. I had posted them at another forum, and I thought you may be interested in them as well. History is fascinating stuff! Some houses may have had plugs, but many homes just screwed the appliance into the light socket overhead. Does anyone know when electric wall plugs were in widespread use? 1906 ad DDTJRAC Even big...
