Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around a problem involving a boy who misreads the time on a clock in a mirror and arrives late to school. Participants explore the implications of the scenario and attempt to solve the timing puzzle presented.

Discussion Character

  • Homework-related, Mathematical reasoning, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant presents a scenario where a boy looks at a clock in a mirror and arrives at school 20 minutes later, discovering he is 2 hours and 30 minutes late compared to the time he saw.
  • Another participant suggests that there are multiple users with similar names, which may complicate recognition in the forum.
  • A participant expresses uncertainty about whether to wait for more responses before posting their solution, indicating a lack of experience in the forum.
  • One participant shares their solution process, arriving at different times (7:25 or 1:25) and questions the correctness of their answer compared to another posted solution (7:55 or 1:55).
  • Another participant confirms the correctness of the 1:55 solution without elaborating on the reasoning.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

The discussion contains multiple competing views regarding the correct solution to the timing problem, with no consensus reached on the validity of the different answers provided.

Contextual Notes

Participants express uncertainty about the problem-solving process and the implications of the scenario, indicating potential missing assumptions or misunderstandings in the setup of the problem.

Should I wait for more people to post solutions next time? I am new to this I don't know!

what's the question ?

You know, and have to understand that there are not only TheElectricChild , there are also TheElectricChild1,TheElectricChild2, TheElectricChild3 etc who are looking for help out there, how can people recognize you and your questions right at once ?

Boy goes to school looks at clock in mirror without realizing it, arrives at school 20 minutes later and finds that it's an 2hrs 30 mins later than the time he saw in the mirror. What time did he arrive at school?

1:55 is another possible solution.

There are people with the same name as mine? Interesting...

I solved this but my answer doesn't match. I used:

Now - Mirror' = 1/3
Now - Mirror = 2.5
Mirror + Mirror' = 12 or Mirror + Mirror' = 24

I solve to get 7:25 or 1:25. The answer posted is 7:55 or 1:55. Did I miss something or is my answer correct?
