Schools Harvard and which other schools rarely if ever accept transfer students

AI Thread Summary
Harvard is not the only university that does not accept transfer students; Princeton has also maintained a long-standing policy against transfers. The limited number of spots available for new students means that even if Harvard were to accept transfers, it could lead to overcrowding and logistical challenges, such as insufficient dormitory space. Elite institutions typically select top-performing students, which reduces the likelihood of dropouts among their accepted candidates. The focus on maintaining small class sizes further complicates the possibility of integrating transfer students. Overall, the policies of these prestigious schools reflect their commitment to managing student populations effectively.

Which other schools do not accept transfer students other than Harvard, or is it only Harvard that doesn't do this? If Harvard accepted transfer students would it over populate their school?

Harvard only recently started not accepting transfers, but they aren't the only ones - Princeton hasn't taken transfer students for a long time. They can take the best of the best - the students they accept are unlikely to fail or drop out, even if they're not doing great. They'd have very few spots to fill if they did take transfers. They limit class sizes, and they can only offer so many dorm rooms.

I graduated with a BSc in Physics in 2020. Since there were limited opportunities in my country (mostly teaching), I decided to improve my programming skills and began working in IT, first as a software engineer and later as a quality assurance engineer, where I’ve now spent about 3 years. While this career path has provided financial stability, I’ve realized that my excitement and passion aren’t really there, unlike what I felt when studying or doing research in physics. Working in IT...
Hi everyone! I'm a senior majoring in physics, math, and music, and I'm currently in the process applying for theoretical and computational biophysics (primarily thru physics departments) Ph.D. programs. I have a 4.0 from a basically unknown school in the American South, two REUs (T50 and T25) in computational biophysics and two semesters of research in optics (one purely experimental, one comp/exp) at my home institution (since there aren't any biophysics profs at my school), but no...
