Dimitri's Graduation Party!

C'mon, Tom! It's party time!

In a quote by Dimitri Terryn from another thread:

"I just completed my BSc with a double major in mathematic/physics..."

Congratulations, Dimitri!

We're so VERY proud of you! What are your future plans??

Thanks  Everybody have a beer/lemonade/appeljuice,...

Plans? Grad school starts in a week. First year consist of taking a big course on all the major sub-disciplines (Mathematical physics, particle physics, solid state physics, astrophysics, quantum field theory,...). Year after that, I have to choose a thesis subject and a promoter.

For now, I'll just enjoy this week as much as I can. :-p

no vodka? :frown:

Yay Dimitri!

congrats, hope grad school aint too tough for ya, which soccer team do you take for, Bruge, Standart de Liege, Anderlecht... i myself take for Anderlecht, i just find it sad they lost lots of good players like Zetterberg, Sciffo, and i believe Razinsky(canadian) too, the Mpenza brothers are pretty good but last time i checked they played for Liege

How come you know so much about Belgian football?
I used to go for Anderlecht (the younger Mpenza plays there now BTW), but as of this year a new team from Brussels, F.C. Brussels has entered First Class. It's built on the relics of two older teams, Molenbeek & Strombeek. My great-granddad used to be the goalkeeper for Strombeek back in the thirties, so I've found my new home

Seriously though, I don't follow football THAT much, but I keep an eye on it.

The party's been going on for a while. Time for more interesting things...
Cocktails & Longdrinks for all! We've got wodka, whisky, Bailey's, Safari, Rum, Pasoa, Amaretto, Port, and plenty of soda & orange juice, so suit yourselves

Hey, it's a Belgian party, so Belgian law applies. The legal drinking age is 16 I believe, but the practical age limit is something like 12...months :-p So drink away my friend!

Meh. First year was hard, and boring. Large courses on general physics, analysis, linear algebra en chemistry are not exactly challenging. Having 40h/week of lectures wasn't exactly pleasant as well.

It got better afterwards. Once you get some serious eletrodynamics, mechanics, quantum theory, variational calculus and algebra life gets suddenly more interesting. I thorougly enjoyed my topology and projective & affine geometry courses as well. There were pain-in-the-bleep courses as well, numerical linear algebra and thermodynamics especially were unpleasant.

Socially it was great however. Being surrounded by scores of intelligent, attractive women and being to party everyday (should you want to), while you are supposed to be studying hard creates a wonderful (if somewhat frustrating) creative tension. As long as you can manage with 5h of sleep per day

I also had the fortune of being able to participate in the university administration as a student representative. Experiencing first-hand all the politics that goed on is very enjoyeable.

I think I'd like better accomodation though...

Congratulations and best wishes for a bright future, Dimitri!

(and be careful someone does not drop something on top of your head while you're under a bridge...)
