Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the legality and implications of John marrying 10 people in one day, exploring various scenarios and interpretations of marriage laws. It also includes a riddle about an entity that has a mouth and a bed but does not speak or sleep.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested
  • Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants question how John could legally marry 10 people in one day.
  • It is suggested that if John does not live in Utah, he could be a priest, which raises questions about the nature of his marriages.
  • One participant proposes that John might be a minister in the Unification Church, noting the unusual nature of scheduling 10 weddings in a single day.
  • Another participant speculates that if John married 10 people in one day, it could actually be considered only 5 weddings, depending on the context.
  • There is a suggestion that John may have married in different countries, which could complicate the legality of his marriages depending on international recognition of marriage certificates.
  • Some participants offer alternative answers to the riddle, suggesting entities like a river, lake, cave, or even a snail or turtle.
  • One participant humorously suggests that if the marriage involved a Norwegian woman, certain legal implications could arise based on marriage certificate validity.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express multiple competing views regarding the legality of John's marriages and the nature of the riddle, with no consensus reached on either topic.

Contextual Notes

Participants acknowledge the complexity of marriage laws across different jurisdictions, and the discussion includes various interpretations of the riddle without resolving them.

John married 10 people in one day. How could this be legal ? :

And here comes my second question, it is about me:

I have mouth but I don't speak,
I have a bed, but I never sleep at all
Who am I ? Who am I ?

Good Gokul!, :Bigteeth:
How about the second ?

I don't think a priest would schedule 10 weddings on the same day. He's a minister in the Unification Church (Moonies, just in case I didn't get the official name right).

The second is a river.

In a movie, it can happen...

Didn't know the Moonies were into the wedding thing too.

Alternate answer : One of those Elvis impersonator dudes in Vegas that says three words in Italian, takes a picture and hands you a marriage license printed on the back of a stripclub's flyer.

If he married 10 people in the day, then it would actually only be 5 weddings. Not quite as many now.

Not necessarily;
If he's a priest in Utah, it might only be a single wedding

Another alternative to original question,
he may have married 10 different women in 10 different countries ...
(i don't think this is illegal *crosses fingers*)

It depends on which countries he might have married in.
For example, a marriage certificate from Denmark is binding also in Norway; in fact, I don't know any countries whose marriage certificates wouldn't be regarded as valid also in Norway.
Hence, we have reached the astonishing conclusion, that if TenaliRaman is right, the man cannot have been married with a Norwegian woman!
