Why is Brazil separate from South America?

We have a number of members from Belgium and The Netherlands, but they aren't mentioned.

Why did you put two China's but put the most of the EU as one?

Don't Norway, Sweden and Finland count as Western Europe?

Culturally Brazil is a bit different from the rest of South America. Mainly because
1. Portugese is its most spoken language as opposed to Spanish
2. Its music, art, and culture in general sees less African influence.

I am trying to group culturally similar areas together. It is impossible to include each and every country which is why I put the words "and nearby" in the options. I would include Belgium and Netherlands in Western Europe (since they share borders with France and Germany).

I know, I'm sorry. I made a mistake with the two Chinas.

Norway-Sweden-Finland are culturally different from the rest of Europe. I would also include Denmark in this group.

Uh yes and no. It is not an absolute scale. They are similar to a certain degree. However I figured out that they are significantly different from the other options that I put in the poll for the European Continent. I would have happily included them in separate groups but PF imposes a limit of 20 options and I have to cover the entire planet. So I hope you understand.

As viewed from, say, Cambodia? Yep, probably pretty close.

But the inverse works as well with the other choices up there, from the UK perspective most of 'separations of countries' could be grouped. So it doesn't follow.

Bear in mind the criteria for separating Brazil from South America:
Culturally Brazil is a bit different from the rest of South America. Mainly because
1. Portugese is its most spoken language as opposed to Spanish
2. Its music, art, and culture in general sees less African influence.

2. Our cultures also have some rather big differences (ranging from work ethics to food).

Just seemed an odd way to differentiate between areas to group that's all

Not really going for a debate point, just curious on the selection process - could have been a lot simpler.

I know. It is the same story here in India. Every state has its own language (mind you they are not dialects) and its in own distinct culture. In fact I would consider Maharashtra and Karnataka (two neighboring states in India) culturally as different as UK and France.

Not really, Brazil is not that different from Latin America, and to be honest language is not a problem. I claim I can read portuguese, and understand portuguese just by knowing spanish FOR THE MOST PART. In fact, I've done this. Also moving from portuguese to spanish and spanish to portuguese is not difficult. In term of culture, Brazil is similar to other latin americas countries.

I voted for Indonesia-Malaysia and nearby because I live nearby Philadelphia. But then I saw Australia-New Zealand and nearby. Which one was I supposed to vote for?

Europe could have been divided into West, East and North (thus including Iceland as well).
