Did snakes once crawl on legs before the curse?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on Genesis 3:14, where God curses the snake, leading to questions about whether snakes originally had legs before the curse. Participants explore the possibility of snakes evolving from legged lizards, supported by scientific studies on bone structure and the existence of some lizards with reduced limbs. The terminology used in the scripture, referring to the creature as a "snake" or "serpent," is also examined for clarity. While the evolutionary aspect aligns with scientific understanding, the implications of being "cursed" and "eating dust" remain uncertain. Overall, the conversation highlights the intersection of biblical text and evolutionary biology.

Gen 3:14 And the Lord God said to the snake, Because you have done this you are cursed more than all cattle and every beast of the field; you will go flat on the earth, and dust will be your food all the days of your life:

Before the curse, did snake crawl on the Earth as now? Could snake have legs before that? And its legs were taken away after the curse?

Did it say Serpent, or Snake?

Actually, this is one part of the bible that isn't so bad, scientifically speaking. It is vey likely that snakes evolved from some legged lizard - as shown by studies of snake bone structure, and the discovery of some snakes/lizards with degenerated limbs.

Not quite so sure about the "cursed" and "eat dust" bit though...

Just ONCE, I wanted to see a post titled Status Update that was not a blatant, annoying spam post by a new member. So here it is. Today was a good day here in Northern Wisconsin. Fall colors are here, no mosquitos, no deer flies, and mild temperature, so my morning run was unusually nice. Only two meetings today, and both went well. The deer that was road killed just down the road two weeks ago is now fully decomposed, so no more smell. Somebody has a spike buck skull for their...
Thread 'In the early days of electricity, they didn't have wall plugs'
Hello scientists, engineers, etc. I have not had any questions for you recently, so have not participated here. I was scanning some material and ran across these 2 ads. I had posted them at another forum, and I thought you may be interested in them as well. History is fascinating stuff! Some houses may have had plugs, but many homes just screwed the appliance into the light socket overhead. Does anyone know when electric wall plugs were in widespread use? 1906 ad DDTJRAC Even big...
