Second Order Runge Kutta for Simple Harmonic Motion
Homework Statement The ordinary differential equation describing shm is d^2x/dt^2=-w^2x where x is the displacement, t is the time and w is the frequency. If x=0 at t=0, the analytical solution is x=Asin(wt), where A is the amplitude. 1) Rewite equation 1 as two first oder ode's suitable for...- Abigail1997

Fluid mechanics formula question
1. Homework Statement See image. Homework Equations I thought that Fx=p*u1*A1(u1+u2)+(p1*a1)+(p2*a2) would be the correct formula however I cannot seem to get the stated answer of 1.8kN. The Attempt at a Solution Using the above formula, p1v1=p2v2 to find u2 and p1a1=p2a2 to find p2...- Abigail1997

Pathline and Streamline problem
Yeah I realized that and changed it to D :) correct, u and v represent the x and y components of V. As for the subbing in t=1, that's what I thought but I cannot seem to get the correct answer (e^3/2) but I'm probably making a silly mistake somewhere and just can't see it- Abigail1997

Power lost due to friction in a propeller
1. Homework Statement Calculate the power lost in friction in the system shown above, with d=0.36, rpm=200, u=0.72, prop=1m and oil=0.23mHomework Equations I know p=w/t comes into it in some form, either with other equations subbed in or a derivation somewhere, but not sure. The Attempt at a...- Abigail1997

Pathline and Streamline problem
1. Homework Statement As above Homework Equations Not sure. The Attempt at a Solution I've only ever seen one of these problems and it was in the form of V=Axi-Ayj, so much simpler and even then it was poorly explained by the lecturer. I understand what a velocity field is but not much more.- Abigail1997

How to Calculate Sample Variance Using Elementary Algebra
1. Homework Statement Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'm really confused about what is going on here. Any sort of breakdown of the mathematical operations for each step would be incredibly helpful. Homework Equations The ones given in the photo, not sure how to type...- Abigail1997
