High School Problem Solving Skill vs. Knowledge
Choice 3, I try to proove all of the theorems I need to use and try to understand the definitions that enable me to attempt the proofs. Exercises are great when you are clueless and need to grasp the information to proove the formula.- acm

Physics Do you have to be a genius to have an academic career in physics?
I'm not brilliant and I'm a math major. I just enjoy maths and work very hard, If I fail all of my courses and bomb out of University I will still do maths regardless. Not terribly motivational, I know, but if doing your best doesn't get you a career in Physics then nothing will.- acm

Halliday and resnik, superficial
I've got the 1966 version (Unsure about which edition), looks like a challenge which is great motivation to take the coursework seriously. I find the text to be relevant to the subject in question, So I can't agree with the text being superficial.- acm

Algebra Qs: Isomorphism & Transpositions
Two unrelated question I need checked. i) Every C-Cycle, C>1, can be written as a product of transpositions. Every permutation of a finite number n>1 of elements can be expressed as a product of transpositions. ii) (Cayley's representation theorem for groups) For every group G is isomorphic to...- acm

Undergrad Solving Inequalities with Exponential Functions
Draw a graph first, let the function be y = x + 3^x - 4 and find where this graph cuts the x-axis (That will satisfy the Ineq, Find an approximate area where the graph cuts the axis, so accuracy is paramount.). From here you should have an idea of the kind of answer you'll need. To find a...- acm

Other Should I Become a Mathematician?
Wilson's theorem 1*2*3*...*(p-1) = -1 mod P In case of p= 5 1*2*-2*-1 = 4 = -1 mod 5 , I'm calling the largest term X. 1*2*3...*X*-X*...*-1 = -1 mod P If -X*...*-1 has 2n terms, then X^2 = -1 mod PFails if there is an even prime, This is my first brush with Number theory so be gentle.- acm
