How does radiation shielding using absorbing materials work?

I understand that, for example, a thick enough sheet of lead can absorb gamma radiation, but I want to understand what actually happens at the molecular/atomic/subatomic level. Also, can the same logic be applied to cosmic particles? I have tried Googling for an answer, but to no avail. Can...

Is the energy generated from matter-antimatter annihilation useful?

I understand that when matter and antimatter come in contact with each other, they annihilate to generate either gamma rays or other particles such as pions, electrons, etc. So my question is, how do we use the gamma rays or the particles to say move a spaceship from one point to another...

Integral of a function gives me acrtan(2cot(x)). How to evaluate this?

That makes sense. I completely forgot about the constant. Thanks!

Integral of a function gives me acrtan(2cot(x)). How to evaluate this?

Not trying to be rude but in my original post I said "integrating with respect to time" so I didn't type time again; I thought it would be unnecessary.

Integral of a function gives me acrtan(2cot(x)). How to evaluate this?

Function is context is: $$\int \frac{(sin^22x)}{(4(1+3cos^2(x)))}dx$$ And according to wolframalpha (I wasn't able to integrate this by myself) this integral is equal to $$\frac{5 x}{18} + \frac{(2 arctan(2 cot(x)))}{9} - \frac{sin(2 x)}{12}$$ The above integral is the integral of a power...

    Finding Limit: $$\frac{8^x}{x^x}$$

And that is how I took the natural log and reached the conclusion of -∞/0, but I believe l'hopital's rule cannot be applied in this situation, correct? Or are you referring to something else?

    Finding Limit: $$\frac{8^x}{x^x}$$

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't see how the denominator is bigger that the numerator after you differentiate and substitute. Maybe I am just reading it wrong. But assuming you are correct (which you most probably are) how is this anymore convincing that what simon posted.

    Finding Limit: $$\frac{8^x}{x^x}$$

##x^x## Which makes the limit go to zero. Correct? I agree to the above logic but is there no other way of showing it? The thing is if this were on a test or an exam my teacher will definitely not give me 5/5 by just saying that. So I am trying to find a way of showing that the limit goes to...

    Finding Limit: $$\frac{8^x}{x^x}$$

    Homework Statement $$\lim_{x\rightarrow \infty} \frac{8^x}{x^x}$$Homework Equations ??The Attempt at a Solution let $$y=\lim_{x\rightarrow \infty} \frac{8^x}{x^x}$$ $$ln y=\lim_{x\rightarrow \infty} x ln\frac{8}{x}$$ and tried l'hopital's rule but because of -∞/0 I am not able to apply that...

How does the Higgs field affect particles at normal energy levels?

I want to clarify one thing: It is the Higgs FIELD not the Higgs PARTICLE that give other particles mass. As for the rest of your question I am wondering about similar things.

What happens to power when voltage is negative

Quite rude to try to change subject without answering the question when you are not the one that asked the question in the first place... If you don't want to answer then just don't.

What happens to power when voltage is negative

That 'r' will it be the internal resistance of the wire? Therefore r =ρL/A were ρ=resistivity, L=length, A=cross sectional area ?

    Calculating electrical energy over time

what do you mean by instantaneous power? Wait do you mean to take the integral of the power function with respect to time?

What happens to power when voltage is negative

If I take a single coil of wire and take magnet and induce a Voltage will the R in v=IR be the internal resistance of the wire? Edited.

    Calculating electrical energy over time

What if my voltage isn't constant? Doesn't that mean that my power isn't constant either? And doesn't E=PT rely on constant power?
