We should give free money to the homeless
This must be an intentionally obtuse comment. Of course some people are losing more money than they gain - there is no obfuscation of this fact. The point is that at the end of the day, *everyone* gets given the same basic income (regardless of all other taxes in effect). That is simply because...- Another God

We should give free money to the homeless
You've never seen io9 before? Well, it is obviously a journalistic endeavour, not original research, but that isn't a problem, it isn't like the author hasn't linked to numerous pieces of evidence to back up everything he says. But that is how functional societies work. The people who have...- Another God

Then get a high paying job. That's the beauty of the BI, it adds up with your income. A new article on this subject: http://io9.com/how-universal-basic-income-will-save-us-from-the-robot-1653303459- Another God

Evolution of Hypnosis: What's the Natural Explanation?
The first thing you should know about Hynosis is that you can't make anyone do something they don't want. Hypnosis is really a state of relaxed receptiveness - in order to be hypnotised, people need to allow themselves to relax, and be willing to follow the commands of 'the hypnotist'. It...- Another God

So there should be a detectable repulsion of the wire from the magnet right?- Another God

Undergrad Please Explain this diagram: Statorless motor
I find it hard to believe that there is no force on the magnet itself. The magnet is stationary, then it is spinning, Newtonian physics says there must be a force acting. To say that no force is acting on the magnet just doesn't make sense to me, can you explain it further?? Also, by 'loop' I...- Another God

Undergrad Please Explain this diagram: Statorless motor
OK, still trying to come to terms with this, and these paragraphs in the wikipedia entry stuck out to me: When a magnet with a symmetrical field is rotated about its axis of symmetry (as it may or may not do in a homopolar machine), people often ask whether the field lines rotate with the...- Another God

This link from the bottom of that article even has a picture of someone doing what I tried to describe LOL. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homopolar_motor So this is obviously well documented...- Another God

Bingo. That film, or more accurately the one it is in reply to: is exactly the phenomenon I was describing in my diagram. You can see the direction of rotation in both of the films too. One has the screw hanging from the positive end (the nobbly end anyway) and it turns clockwise. The version...- Another God

Undergrad Please Explain this diagram: Statorless motor
(the equation doesn't mean anything to me. I'm a molecular biologist, not a physicist :p) But the field, current force description is pretty mcuh what I said above I think...the question that was posed to me was what was the force pushing against? Actually, to make this easier to understand...- Another God

Undergrad Please Explain this diagram: Statorless motor
OK, I remember that, but I don't understand how that makes torque. Why does a magnetic field around the flow of electrons turn the magnet?- Another God

quite. The two turning in opposite directions would create far more problems than both turning in the same direction. Friction and the like specifically. I didn't check, but it seems incredibly unlikely. PS mindscrape, that video was rm...any chance you can find a youtube or video.google...- Another God
