Is life a matter of evolving chemistry?
Incorrect. There doesn't need to be a covalent bond for DNA to match up with the opposite strand or the various RNAs. Anything but TACCATGC wouldn't fit correctly opposite to ATGGTACG. Chemistry covers non-covalent interactions.- aroc91

Insights Atomic positioning with DNA hinges - Comments
They're already beyond mere imagination, though I haven't seen anything more recent on the topic. http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v459/n7243/full/nature07971.html- aroc91

Is Plasma Responsible for Transporting Oxygen in the Blood?
A small bit of dissolved oxygen is present in the plasma, but it's dwarfed by the amount in hemoglobin.- aroc91

Best place to sell surplus chemicals?
I'm going to err on the side of caution for the time being, given PF's rules on solicitation and advertising, until I hear something from Greg or one of the mods, but I'll keep you in mind. -
Best place to sell surplus chemicals?
Thanks. I have a few unknowns too, so I think I'm going to give the local university chem department a holler and see if they can offer some assistance. Their budget's probably more in line with what I've got too. Something tells me my high school doesn't want 10 kilos of erbium oxide... haha. -
Best place to sell surplus chemicals?
Hi all. I recently came into the possession of a fair amount of various chemicals in various amounts. It's not anything outrageous (mostly a lot of ionic silver and lutetium compounds), so eBay would accept it, but I was just wondering if there was a better alternative. -
What is the difference between blood flow and cardiac output
The velocity subheading of the blood flow Wiki gives a few examples of areas where cross section and velocity are drastically different. You're probably aware that blood pressure is significantly lower in capillaries than in the aorta. However, multiply their given values and you'll see that...- aroc91

High School Mean colour of visible spectrum?
Mean and [arithmetic] average are the same thing. Where are you getting "highest minus lowest" from? That's not any form of averaging as far as I know. If you take the average of 100 and 1 with that method, it comes out to 99, which doesn't make any sense.- aroc91

Why Can't Babies Walk? Neurological Development Explained
I'm not too keen on developmental biology, but as far as I know, there's a gross anatomical factor as well as well as the neural that's already been discussed - spine curvature - which isn't developed until walking age. An infant's spine starts out convex and eventually develops the lumbar and...- aroc91

Ecological Pyramids: Producers Outnumber Consumers?
There can be cases in which consumer biomass is greater than producer biomass, but it's only a temporary situation. If producers are killed off, consumers will decline in population as a response because they won't have as much food to support them.- aroc91

Why Does Fluorescence Decrease During the Lag Phase in 3T3 Cell Growth Curves?
Have you run statistical analysis on the fluorescence values? Is it statistically significant decrease? Can you provide the raw data? It could just be normal variance or noise that you're interpreting as a decrease.- aroc91

Adding salt and water to fibroblast growth medium
This one is 270 +/- 10 mOsm/L. I'm not sure why, but there's a bit of variance in human cell culture medias. I found a couple examples of stem cell cultures that ranged from 292 up to 340. In any case, you should have the literature on your specific media or you can contact the manufacturer...- aroc91
