Graduate What's on the other side of a black hole?
I've seen some stuff in cartoons and other sci-fi films where there are possibilities of the existence of somebody just like me in another part of the universe. Like, if I'm X, then somewhere else another person called X' exists. Can a black hole act as a portal to this 'another world' where a...- assassinsdoc

Undergrad Why is C-14 Radioactive Despite Low N/P Ratio?
thank you! I've studied in class about something called 'magic numbers' where nuclei having 2, 8, 20, 28, 50, 82 or 126 protons or neutrons or both (separately) are exceptionally stable compared to their respective neighbouring nuclides. So, they too make an exception.- assassinsdoc

How Much Work Must Be Done for Earth to Escape the Sun?
tell me if I'm wrong, but isn't binding energy defined as the amount of energy needed to keep a particular amount of matter together? so, to break up that matter, we need an equivalent amount of energy. The question is to move the Earth away from the sun. So, in a way, won't binding energy be...- assassinsdoc

Graduate Conceptual problem on black hole singularity
I've read that there's a point in a black hole where matter is infinitely dense. There is zero volume but infinite density. How is it possible for something to have zero volume but have an infinite density at the same time?- assassinsdoc
