Advice for second rigorous book on linear algebra
I thought Artin's textbook was more focused on abstract algebra. I would check out Axler's text or the texts by Shilov or Gelfand. The latter two are available as cheap Dovers now.- axeae

you took graduate courses as a freshmen, but you don't know how GPAs are calculated? kind of getting a troll vibe here- axeae

Math Education at NYU: Admissions Requirements
does NYU have special admissions for their undergrad math program? they're supposed to be one of the best for graduate applied math, but I don't thnk their other undergraduate programs are that hard (compared to ivy leagues and MIT) to get into.- axeae

Foreign Language: A requirement for Mathematics Ph.Ds?
I don't think you really need to be fluent in a language, I always heard you just had to translate a page of a document using a dictionary, or something similar to that.- axeae

while apostol is more rigorous, you might be better off with stewart's calculus for learning the material for the first time. I skimmed over the pdfs of strang's calculus---it seems similar to his linear algebra book, which was a good book but I personally didn't like his style. if you can get...- axeae

Other Should I Become a Mathematician?
I found first year grad courses easier than the third year pure math courses. the topics may be more "difficult" but at that point you should be better prepared and more experienced as a math student. I've never done the putnam but learning more topology and set theory is usually never a bad...- axeae

Other Should I Become a Mathematician?
Yeah I looked at the homeworks, they're rough but it's somewhat similar to what my class had. my class wasn't made for freshmen though, it was a class for juniors, but I took it as a freshman. To answer samspotting's question, graduate real analysis typically covers some measure theory and...- axeae

What Are the Most Important Concepts for Entering Calculus?
I'm not sure if it's "precalculus level" but I've heard "how to prove it" by vellerman is a good intro to proof writing book. I used it briefly but I don't really remember a whole lot about it.- axeae

Other Should I Become a Mathematician?
Math 55 seems pretty over-hyped, my analysis course wasn't much different ( it was mostly questions from rudin for hw, around the same number of problems too) and I took it as a freshman---it's tough but not as tough as people make it out to be (http://www.thecrimson.com/article.aspx?ref=516216)- axeae

Other Should I Become a Mathematician?
Usually math texts say they're made for first year graduate students or advanced graduates, but undergraduate analysis is so much different from graduate real analysis, it's hard to imagine many graduate students using baby rudin, especially when most should be taking a course in graduate real...- axeae
