Can someone please explain the basic rules that must be adhered to when using Gauss-Jordan Elimination? I've been having some difficulty with it because apparently I keep doing things that you aren't allowed to do. So far, I know only the following: -You CAN multiply an entire row by a...- Axmann

Oh god Gauss-Jordan Elimination.
Thank you! That definitely helps! I'm getting answers that actually make sense now. So, can you divide both sides of a row by a nonzero number too, or only replace it with a nonzero multiple of itself?- Axmann

Oh god Gauss-Jordan Elimination.
Oh, wait. Let me ask a quick question. Can you add or subtract a single number to or from a single row? Or can you only multiply/divide rows, and only add-subtract rows from/to each other?- Axmann

Oh god Gauss-Jordan Elimination.
1. Homework Statement : 2. Relevant equations: Not applicable. 3. The attempt at a solution: This is where the problem begins. It's funny, because I used to be good at matrices back in high school, but when I look at them now, I don't understand why I keep getting different answers when I...- Axmann

Best basic/intuitive mathematics software?
I've used Mathematica, and I find it really counter-intuitive. It's really complex for the user who isn't accustomed to math software, and doing simple mathematic functions, like addition/division/multiplication, etc. is insanely complex with Mathematica. Now, I know that a calculator is...- Axmann
