PF PHOTO CONTEST - Bad Picture 2 (10/1-10-7)
http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/6715/pict0063es3.jpg A tribute to all the beer drinkers. I built the arch with empty beer boxes after stocking the cooler, but since I don't usually use a flash so the picture turned out blurry. I built several over a couple weeks but then once the main...- Ba

Can we get enough water from fruits alone?
Who needs your hands, sometimes when I'm hiking I'll just lean down over the creek and take a drink.- Ba

Poll: Should Men Be Allowed to Wear Dresses?
I have no trouble listening to both the lyrics and the music at the same time. Although I tend to attribute this more to the fact that I've played in band and usually can pick out what each instrument is playing simultaneously.- Ba

Can You Communicate with Deer by Closing Your Eyes?
Yosemite the only animal fatality that the HR department admits is from a deer. (Of course this was a parent putting a little child up on the deer's back to take a picture, I've never been sure if the child died or the parent.) Deer are dangerous much more so than bears. Bears will run away...- Ba

Maximum - free fall dive into water
30' the highest that I've dived from, several times. It didn't cause any noticable injury that I noticed. This was a creek and not an ocean, so the tension was not as great but I could go a little bit higher.- Ba

Proving Equal Diagonals in a Quadrilateral Inscribed in a Circle
For number one, assuming the wheel is circular still after years of sitting around I would just use that radii are tangent to the surface of the circle.- Ba

Undergrad Can note bending on a trumpet be explained through physics?
Yeah I play trombone as well but the trumpet is slightly more portable and can then be used for a demonstration. I actually started trombone first, Dixieland is a lot of fun. Unfortunately I'm not in a band right now.- Ba

Undergrad Can note bending on a trumpet be explained through physics?
So why does a note come out? Why do you get the similar harmonic structure as one would get if you play the same note using valves? So are you damping out the natural resonance with your lips and pushing out the other frequancies. how does one overcome the natural harmonics?- Ba

Undergrad Can note bending on a trumpet be explained through physics?
Yes, but I am trying to explain lip bending including the natural harmonics of the trumpet. All I get are models that don't include this in their explanation. I want to understand how one can change the harmonics of the trumpet by bending the note. What exactly is one doing? When I'm bending...- Ba

Undergrad Can note bending on a trumpet be explained through physics?
For a physics research project I am doing the physics of note bending on the trumpet. Basically without pressing any valves I can bend a middle C to B natural. I am having problems finding any materials that talk about this except in passing mention. Such as, experimentally there are problems...- Ba

Create an Edible Musical Instrument: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in G Major
If you are willing to make candy then you could make almost anything. A recorder would be easy or if you trust your musical skills you could make a slide whistle. Thus allowing better tuning. Xylaphone comes to mind as well. Should be easy to play and easily made out of food.- Ba

High School Shake Up Flashlights - Impressive Induced Current from Motion
I've used one before and it lasted for about 5-10 minutes between shakes. I like them a lot but I haven't actually bought one. I just don't use a flashlight often enough to warrant it.
