What Significant Events Defined 2012?
Thanks for reminding me Pythagorean! Happiest events to every one of you in this new year of 2012! I'm not sure if they're predicting planes falling out of the sky or meteors or if California is going to jackknife around and crush British Columbia or if several middle eastern nations are...- baywax

Do Feelings Exist as Real Entities or Just Neurological Responses?
Its often said that solids are an illusion born of our inability to see the space between each molecule that makes up the "solid", on a microscopic level. Yet, the illusion that we have built that represents a solid, is our way of avoiding being hurt or killed by slamming into the solid (which...- baywax

Largest/Rarest Ancient Roman Shipyard Uncovered
Thanks Astronuc, it didn't occur to me that this shipyard would be a part of the Portus complex. Totally cool!- baywax

Largest/Rarest Ancient Roman Shipyard Uncovered
This is an unprecedented discovery. This kind of find is very rare. Perhaps because the shipyard this story is about was large enough to be one of the only shipyards during the 2nd century. http://www.livescience.com/16201-rome-ancient-shipyard.html- baywax

Graduate Scale invariance and bubble universes
"Universe' (universe |ˈyoōnəˌvərs| noun ( the universe) all existing matter and space considered as a whole; the cosmos". Can we use this term to describe separate "bubbles" of matter, anti matter etc...? or does the term apply to single and separate units of space, time, matter etc... -
High School Teen uses Fibonacci sequence to make solar energy breakthrough
I thought this design would take up more vertical space and let more sun hit the ground.- baywax

High School Why does heat reflect sunlight? (ie: mirages)
Ah, thank you! I realized after posting that it was the air rather than the heat doing the reflecting. Thanks again!- baywax

High School Why does heat reflect sunlight? (ie: mirages)
The title of this thread is all I have to ask about this. You've seen mirages, if they are caused by light reflecting off heat I am wondering why this takes place. Thank you.- baywax

High School Teen uses Fibonacci sequence to make solar energy breakthrough
What I can figure out of this is that the array of panels would not completely block the sun from reaching the ground below them, as does happen with a bank of solar panels. Using this method there is perhaps the possibility that a "partially shaded" environment would be created by the "trees"...- baywax

So far its all media hype, repeating the original story exponentially. No study, paper, nothing... as of late.- baywax

High School Why Does Gravity Pull Objects Together?
It may be a little like saying, "why is the sky blue?" then answering "because it is." But, there is a "reason" why there is gravity and that is because there is mass.- baywax

High School Why Does Gravity Pull Objects Together?
This is a little like my question "is gravity an emergent phenomenon?" (and, of course, I had to correct myself and ask if gravity is an "emergent property". Check out my thread... https://www.physicsforums.com/showthread.php?t=474303- baywax
