Physics Jobs in numerical simulations with a BSc in Physics?
I'd say I enjoy the latter. Would self studying include independent self studying outside of academia?- BearShark

Physics Jobs in numerical simulations with a BSc in Physics?
Just finished my Bs.c with a minor in CS. At the end of my degree I did a reserch project where I numerically solved a nonlinear PDE and enjoyed the numerical simulation work. What is the best path to do similar work in the industry? I don't mind simulating models from outside of physics, such...- BearShark

Studying How to make the move from textbook to homework?
Hey, I am a physics major and a new semester is about to begin. I think my biggest problem study wise is that I would go over the lecture notes and sometimes the textbook too, yet always feel ill equipped to tackle the homework problems. Currently my strategy is to go over the text...- BearShark

Zangwill, problem 10.19 - A Matching condition for the vector potential A
Homework Statement Show that the normal derivative of the coulomb gauge vector suffers a jump discontinuity at a surface endowed with a current density K(\vec r_s ) Homework Equations The vector potential A is given by: A=\frac{\mu_0}{4\pi}\int{\frac{J(x')}{|x-x'|}d^3x} The magnetic...- BearShark

Courses 48 yr old wanting to learn physics
I am a physics major and what helped me in the basic introductory courses (E&M and Mechanics) was a lecturer from Yale with great online classes. He basically teaches a two part course called "Fundamentals of Physics" concentrating on E&M and Mechanics, with some thermodynamics and even some...- BearShark

Testing I understand the physics but struggle with the math on tests
I have have Dysgraphia, like dyslexia with writing, and I get an extended time accommodation in exams. It does help because it gives me more time to go over errors. I would still like to make less errors because I'd rather use the time to think about the problems rather than do algebra most of...- BearShark

Testing I understand the physics but struggle with the math on tests
Thanks. I do realize everyone makes mistakes, but no matter how much I practice I don't seem to manage to do as well as my classmates seem to do in this area. This is frustrating for me because it puts me at a disadvantage.- BearShark

Testing I understand the physics but struggle with the math on tests
Thank you for your response. I do ok when I need to solve classes of problems I am already familiar with. For example I can usually do Fourier transforms ok because I am familiar with the theorems like the shift and convolution theorem, which allows me to skip a lot of algebra. I am also...- BearShark

Testing I understand the physics but struggle with the math on tests
Hey, I guess anyone in physics have seen it a lot but I have trouble looking for tips and strategies for solving my problem so I thought I'll try here. Problem: I currently take Waves and Optics. I already passed Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, Analytical Mechanics, Thermodynamics and...- BearShark

Undergrad Why is there force on a dielectric inserted into a capacitor
Hey, we have learned in class that if you partialy insert a dielectric slab into a capacitor where voltage is held constant, there is a force pulling the dielectric farther into the capacitor. This gets me consfued. I know the more dielectric material there is in the capacitor, the capacitence...- BearShark

Programs Consecuences of leaving a CS major for physics
Almeisan: Your entire premise is wrong. I took one year in Uni then I spent the last 7 years outside of school due to cicumstances I do not wish to discuss. It's not like I spent 7 years trying to get a BS.c. As to why I think I can do well in physics: I already am. Right now I'm on track to...- BearShark

Programs Consecuences of leaving a CS major for physics
unfortunately, I can not do this. I failed this course 7 years ago, and failed it last year. My university gives two chances to pass and the department head is unresponsive to my reasoning that the last time was 7 years ago. As I said she's pretty strict. It is partly my fault, I took too high a...- BearShark

Programs Consecuences of leaving a CS major for physics
Hey, there. I am reading this forum for close to a year and it seems to have knowlagable people. I am in a little academic crisis right now. I'll start by saying I was enrolled in a CS/Physics double major. I actually started University 7 years ago, and returned just now, at age 26. I was...- BearShark
