Poynting Effect, more than one meaning?
A thermodynamics book defines Poynting effect--mist in equilibrium above a lake has lower temperature. Work is required to offset the surface tension of the droplets, hence the temperature drops slightly. On the other hand, internet sources give the Poynting effect as a topic in radio waves.- beech

State of the Climate September 2009
Question #2 I am computing average atmospheric temperature, Tav, up to 11 km. My imaginary planet has three regions: desert, ocean, and temperate areas. Surface temperate = 30, adiabic lapse = 10, Tav = -13.4 Surface temperate = 20, adiabic lapse = 5, Tav = -4.7 Surface temperate = 15...- beech

I meant that the heat track would be more visable in the dark. A big tide of ten meters should produce about 1/100 of a degree. A rattlesnake can resovle the difference.- beech

The moon lifts the ocean about a meter and moves about 1600 kilometers per hour. Does this tidal force leave a heat track, say, during a full moon?- beech

Graduate Is Gravitational Shear Limited to Gravitational Lensing?
Is there more than one meaning for "gravitational shear". It seems to refer to focusing of light beams. When I calculate the difference in velocity, of Earth's side closest and farthest from the sun: the difference is about one meter/second. Is that gravitational shear? Calculation...- beech
