Is My Power Series Approach Correct for Solving This Differential Equation?

Thanks Jackmell! The example is simple so I thought I understood it, but the first problem I showed you is in my homework so I just have to try it. There are couple of more homework problems which seem to be even more complicated cause there are sin x ,cos x in them...hehe, lucky me!Can you help...

Is My Power Series Approach Correct for Solving This Differential Equation?

Thank you so very much Jackmell! I will have to go back and do a good review on power series in order to grasp your input. The way you represented y and y' is what I read in the textbook as well. However, my prof is teaching us to represent y in a different way. Below I am showing you an...

Is My Power Series Approach Correct for Solving This Differential Equation?

I've just started learning to solve DE by using power series and I am not sure If I did it the right way. Would anybody be kind enough going thru my solution here and see if I did it right? I want to make sure I am doing the right thing, I am very bad with series. Thanks in advance!and i have...

Solving a Diatomic Ideal Gas Problem: Find Temp & Energy Transfer

I don't think I understand the physics of this well. sO THE presssure is the pressure of the gas? As it is heated up, it expands, then pressure should be decreasing, isn't it? But yet this is not a free expansion.

Solving a Diatomic Ideal Gas Problem: Find Temp & Energy Transfer

W= -P(Vf-Vi) ? i am not sure what does it imply" P is proportional to V..

Solving a Diatomic Ideal Gas Problem: Find Temp & Energy Transfer

oh i see. I was confused about heat and Q. So the energy transfer by heat means the energy that caused the increase in temperature and the energy that the gas expands--work done by gas. So E =Q +W E=nCv\DeltaT but how do I calculate Work? What kind of expansion is this. I see volume...

Solving a Diatomic Ideal Gas Problem: Find Temp & Energy Transfer

Homework Statement A cylindar w/ a moving piston holds 3.50 mol of a diatomic ideal gas. The initial vol. is Vi, and its temperature is Ti. Then the cylinder is set on a heat plate and additional weights are placed onto the piston as it moves up, and pressure is proportional to the volume...

    Yonug double-slit-experiment homework

Thanks so very much! It was very helpful. I was confused with I max and I net. So I kept on using wrong equations. Thanks!

    Yonug double-slit-experiment homework

Thanks a lot! I see that if I find the phase difference then I can find wavelength of the light. So the \varphi that makes the net intensity 1/4 of the single intensity is at \pi/8?? Is that correct?I am not sure if i know how to find the phase difference. when I add 2 sine waves, at 29...

    Yonug double-slit-experiment homework

To get wavelength we normally use \lambda=\frac{}{}dsin(\theta)/n so if there is no minima in between which means that n=1, first order. Can i just use the above formula to calculate the wavelength? I am just confused about the intensity part. What does it mean by saying net intensity is 1/4...

    Yonug double-slit-experiment homework

Homework Statement In Yonug double-slit-experiment, the net I (intensity) is 1/4 of the intensity from each source, at an angle of 29° off the center-axis. There is no minima between this point and the central--maximum. The source is apart for 420 nm. What is the wavelength of the...

    A person uses a re-flecting telescope of dia= 20 cm

Hi Thanks a lot! I just found out that for telescope, we use the equation without 1.22 factor. And I tried. answers are all correct.

    A person uses a re-flecting telescope of dia= 20 cm

I just realized that I did not use radians for part b. Anyhow, 0.00021 degree is a wrong answer. But the question is asking angle in degrees.

    A person uses a re-flecting telescope of dia= 20 cm

For part a, I was asked to give the answer in degree, so I did not convert to radians. So the calculation did give me 0.00021 degree, but it was wrong answer. For part b, I did 2 x 1.7 x 0.00021 =7.14 e-4, and I did convert into micro meter, 714 \mum And again, it was wrong..
