Torque: Yoyo with Two Strings - Direction and Maximum Tension
Oh, just realized that friction doesn't matter if considering torque around p, as the lever arm = 0... One other thing that confuses me is what happens if you consider torque around the C.M. Both strings are trying to create a clockwise spin, and friction opposes that meaning that it would...- capn awesome

Solving Static Equilibrium: Ʃτ = 0, ƩF = 0
http://postimg.org/image/4ctmvwzx3/ Homework Equations Ʃτ = 0 ƩF = 0 The Attempt at a Solution summing the torques for each piece, i found Ʃτ = MgLsin(90-ψ) - mgIsin(ψ) = 0 MgLsin(90-ψ) = mgIsin(ψ) ML/mI = sin(ψ)/sin(90-ψ) = sin(ψ)/cos(-ψ) = tan(ψ) so ψ =...- capn awesome

Torque: Yoyo with Two Strings - Direction and Maximum Tension
Homework Statement So, basic yoyo with center of mass O, moment of inertia Io , and mass m. Has an inner radius of r, and outer of R, and in contact with the ground at point p. Two strings are attached at inner radius r, each pulling with equal tensions, one pulling from the top of r directly...- capn awesome

Wordy Physics on Forces, Pulleys, and Friction
Is it 100N..? Conceptually, if I was pulling on the rope myself with the other end attached to a fixed point, there would be 50N of tension pulling the other way. If someone on the other end is pulling with the same force, there is still tension in the rope. For the pulley question, I...- capn awesome

Wordy Physics on Forces, Pulleys, and Friction
"The applied force of the man pulling on the rope is what creates the tension - as far as the man-mass is concerned, there is just the tension pulling up." What exactly do you mean by this? If the man and platform were stationary instead of accelerating, would there be two different forces of...- capn awesome

Wordy Physics on Forces, Pulleys, and Friction
Hi. I'm new here, and decided to sign up now that physics is actually difficult for me in first year university... Hope to find the help I need, and help those that I can. Anyway.. I'm having trouble with these wordy physics problems... 1) A light rope passing over a light frictionless pulley...- capn awesome
