Undergrad Question about "the big bang happened everywhere at once"
Is it fair to think about the statement "the big bang happened everywhere at once." as meaning the singularity that spawned the "big bang" was very large by cosmic scales, even infinitely large? (I am aware that the word "singularity" refers to a place where the math breaks down and not a point... -
Graduate Can a Single Particle Move in an Empty Universe?
Thank you for your CONSTRUCTIVE comment. I see your point and thank you for taking the time to write something that is informative. -
Graduate Can a Single Particle Move in an Empty Universe?
New Well, since my post says it is a "thought experiment" I'm sure you could think of something.... -
Graduate Can a Single Particle Move in an Empty Universe?
Question: If there were only a single elementary particle in the entire universe - could it move, and if so, how would its movement be measured? -
High School How Does Time Expand? 9th Grade Guide
Thats what my statement referred to. When I am standing still, there is still movement within (blood flow, heartbeat, cellular) and aound me. (the world at large) -
High School How Does Time Expand? 9th Grade Guide
Isn't time just a measurement of objects moving through space? (example: it takes this long, for this object, to move this far, through space) If I am correct in this, then if there is no space, there is no time - because there is nothing to move through to be measured. -
Graduate Cosmic expansion in quantum gravity
I posted this same question awhile back in a different context. In thay post, Peter Donis gave a good answer to your question you may want to look at. In addition TEFLing also posted a link that fits into your question that I found facinating. That post was titled Is all the space there is... -
Undergrad Please explain the statement "the big bang happened everywhere at once"
Its good to hear someone with your pedigree make this statement. I for one, have had a long standing problem with dark matter. "Any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex... It takes a touch of genius --- and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction." - Albert... -
Undergrad Astronomers Observe Supernova & Find They’re Watching Reruns
Here is a link to an interesting article I wanted to share with the community. It talks about how astronomers are watching the same supernova over and over again due to gravitational lensing. The data they are gathering will supposedly shed new insights into dark matter as well... -

Graduate Is all the space there is here now or is space being created
PETERDONIS ASKED: What article? Can you give a reference or a link to it? Without the context it's not really possible to tell what the article meant by the statements you quoted. This link takes you to an article that is the only thing I can find that touches on what I read several years back... -
Graduate Is all the space there is here now or is space being created
Hello all, Sometime back I read an article on spacetime. It expanded upon the thought that since we live in a universe where all the "space" there will ever be is here now - then all the "time" there will ever be is here now because spacetime is so intimately related. Is this nonsense or... -
Graduate Is Time Quantized? | Scientific American
Is time quantized? I just read an interesting article in scientific american about this subject. The following link should take you there. The most interesting part was about research done by William G. Tifft, a professor of astronomy at the University of Arizona. I was wondering what others... -
Graduate Dark Matter and extra dimensions
To answer your question. I do not. Not sure how you came to that conclusion. What I posted was - However, all the dark matter candidates in the space/time of our universe are theories as well and there is a discussion on them. What I meant by this was that the problem of dark matter is far... -
Graduate Dark Matter and extra dimensions
Thank you for taking the time to post the links. I really appreciate it. I found them to be a bit over my head, but informative, interesting, and helpful nonetheless.
