What is the process of converting energy into mass?

Wow, ok my head is kind of reeling after trying to "catch up" with this thread. So, a quick clarifying question if anyone understands this better than me. Do we currently know of a process that converts pure energy (not energy and mass interacting) into mass? Also something else just came...

Calculating Sample Size with Unknown Distribution and Given Statistics

Hi everyone, Quick question. If you have a given sample of unknown size, and unknown distribution, but you know the following: 1 - 90th percentile equals 10 2 - There are three observations that are 10 or greater Is it correct to assume there are 30 observations in that sample...

Conditional Probability - Teacher says I'm wrong

Thanks for the additional inputs everyone. Whatta... LOL at the letter. I'm not sure what my reaction would be to that if my kid had that sent home with them. Thanks SSD for the confirmation.

Conditional Probability - Teacher says I'm wrong

The only formula we have used in class is the one you used. I now believe the teacher just made a mistake, and then blew me off when I tried to explain my method and why I didn't choose .63 on the exam. Thanks for writing it out, and showing me that someone else was getting .621 also.

Conditional Probability - Teacher says I'm wrong

Hi, Just got back from class. The given answer was .63... Did anyone get their own solution for this? Thanks Again.

Conditional Probability - Teacher says I'm wrong

Hi Everyone, Let's see if someone here can do a better job than my teacher! I have one of the least helpful stat teachers ever. She told me that I was wrong about the following problem. I am not saying that she is wrong or right, but when I asked her to explain why I was wrong, she told me...

How do we really know the universe is expanding?

Thank you to everyone for your help and information. I appreciate those who tried to "dumb it down" a little.

What is the process of converting energy into mass?

Thank you again for some of the further explanations. This is a very interesting subject to me... sometimes people say that mass and energy are the same thing, and I don't know that we really know whether that's true or not. Any additional info would be great.

How do we really know the universe is expanding?

Hi Everyone, Sorry for putting blue shift... i was talking to my friend about it as i wrote, and we were talking about the Andromeda galaxy as I was typing, so it messed me up, but anyway... These answers are way too filled with big words and vague terms. Can someone explain some or all of...

What is the process of converting energy into mass?

Thanks to everyone for your answers. Some of them were very interesting. This question sprang about from a discussion on entropy that I was having with one of my friends.

What is the process of converting energy into mass?

Yes... that was a joke, but I am asking a real question here. I know that energy = mass c^2, so when you add energy to something you are increasing it's mass energy or whatever, but does that mean that mass and energy are the exact same thing? I don't think so, because then a really really...

What is the process of converting energy into mass?

Ok I weighed myself while i was holding a potato, then i heated it and ate it, and then i weighed myself, and the weight was the same.

How do we really know the universe is expanding?

I know about the blue shift of all the galaxies that we see, but does that really prove that galaxies are expanding, or just that something in the intergalactic space is causing a blue shift in the light from distant galaxies to ours? Thanks, and I hope this is the correct forum!

What is the process of converting energy into mass?

Hi, I have only taken two semesters of Physics, so please keep that in mind when answering. Thanks! OK, I have heard of fission and fusion, and I basically understand them. Smash together some mass, and the result is a little bit of missing mass which creates a ton of energy. I have...
