Undergrad Propagating Wave: Explaining Oscillation & Sine Wave
Hi. Can someone explain for a propagating wave (ie an EM wave) when it is represented as oscillating and portrayed as a sine wave. What does the oscillation physically mean? Energy is being transferred as the wave propagates but what does the oscillation actually mean?- Cerkit

Graduate Optoelectronic devices what rms linewidth means?
Can someone explain to me in the context of optoelectronic devices what rms linewidth means?? For example the rms linewidth of a particular laser is 0.1nm. What does that mean? and what implications does this have on a communications system using that laser? Thanks- Cerkit

Graduate How Does an Electric Field Affect Energy Levels in a Quantum Well?
Which method do you advise me to use as a first timer. Perturbation theory apparently doesn't account for strong fields...?- Cerkit

Graduate How Does an Electric Field Affect Energy Levels in a Quantum Well?
Ok. Well as of now I have read through the variational method. I have also found a variational method for a triangle potential well but that is for an infinite well. The only explicit variational method I have found for a finite well is G.Bastard, E.E. Mendez ,Variational calculations on a...- Cerkit

Graduate How Does an Electric Field Affect Energy Levels in a Quantum Well?
Hi. Does anyone know how to perform perturbation theory for a finite well under the influence of an electric field? If not or also what other method is there to calculate the shift in subband energies under the influence of an E field in a quantum well? Thanks- Cerkit
