Doppler Effect: Velocity of a train

Typically, the whistle is found on the train :) try it this way. The source is the object that is doing the whistling. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Train_whistle

Doppler Effect: Velocity of a train

Maybe I'm crazy but this doppler equation doesn't feel right. Why is there a time dependence? The frequency should not be changing as a function of time. Check this. In any case, you solved for vD. Is this the train? Which object is the source of the sound, the train or the student?

Other Intermediate Optics (including nonlinear optics)?

Hey everyone. I'm currently in a new research lab that focuses on optics. One thing I'm currently tasked with is handling the femtosecond laser we have. However, to do this, I need a stronger background in optics than I currently have (which is a few years of undergrad optics, some quantum...

Studying What background is needed for nuclear physics

Me picking up the textbook was not the cause for interest, it was my interest that caused me to pick up the textbook :)

Studying What background is needed for nuclear physics

Sure. Maybe I wasn't clear. I got a free textbook from an old professor Introduction to High Energy Physics by Perkins (1972)

Studying What background is needed for nuclear physics

Hello. I am currently just a 2nd year undergrad, with nuclear physics being my end goal for study. However, as of now, I cannot even open an entry-level nuclear energy textbook without being totally lost. So I am asking: what background is needed (in terms of courses, materials, etc.) in order...
