Foundations Textbooks vs Khan Academy for Self Study and PreCalc CLEP
Hi PF, I hope y'all had a great Thanksgiving. Quick question, as I've mentioned before, I am non-traditional college student who is right at just over College Algebra/beginning Trig level in Math. While I am out of university, to make enough money to return, I am wanting to CLEP...- Chandller

High School The Importance of Geometry in one's Mathematical Foundation
Hi PF, What would you say is the level of importance of Geometry, as opposed to say, Algebra I or II, in a future Mathematician's mathematical foundation? Would not covering it thoroughly leave holes that would show up later in higher mathematics? Any thoughts?Thank you, Chandller- Chandller

When they first called you Dr.___________?
Hi PF, As maybe a handful of you know, I am a non-traditional student who has had the dream of becoming, and who is slowly working their way toward, a Doctorate of Mathematics (Ph.D). After all the years of grinding towards it, I wanted to ask those who have made the summit, what was the...- Chandller

Foundations Rigorous Alternatives to AoPS for PreAlgebra-PreCalculus?
Hi Mathwonk, I just wanted to add that it wasn't my intention to be argumentative in my previous post. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my post, and also, letting me know of the AoPS books lack of rigor. I edited the post, btw. I guess, I posted it that way because I have...- Chandller

Foundations Rigorous Alternatives to AoPS for PreAlgebra-PreCalculus?
I actually just got a hold of the ebook and at first glace, I don't see any Trigonometry in Elements of Algebra. I am not seeing any Geometry, either. With those not included, what would be some great books, of the same caliber as Euler's book, that would fill those holes, so one could be...- Chandller

Foundations Rigorous Alternatives to AoPS for PreAlgebra-PreCalculus?
Hi Mathwonk, I had actually put up a thread about a PreCalculus book by Warren Esty and I mentioned that I had been out of college for a while, that I was a non-traditional Applied Mathematics student at college Trig level, and that I was having to take a break from school for a while and...- Chandller

Hi Mathwonk, I have heard of that book but have never really looked through it. Seems like it would be a great starting point. Other idea's?- Chandller

Foundations Rigorous Alternatives to AoPS for PreAlgebra-PreCalculus?
Hi PF, If one were so inclined to self-study PreAlgebra - PreCalculus, with textbooks of the very same caliber and rigor of the Art of Problem Solving books, no matter the cost, which textbooks would be the best choice? Thank you in advance. Chandller- Chandller

Foundations Precalculus: Sixth Edition by Warren W. Esty, is it Rigorous?
Hi TurboDiesel, I really appreciate the great info and response. Let me/us know when you get it. Did you get the Solution booklet, as well? If not, let me know. I am a fan of AoPS, as well. I found another pretty rigorous Precalculus book from Dr. David H. Collingwood at the University of...- Chandller

Foundations Precalculus: Sixth Edition by Warren W. Esty, is it Rigorous?
I actually already have the book. So, I was mainly looking for opinions. Seeing how PF is full of threads asking as to the rigor and/or the quality (or rating, as you mentioned,) of various books, even Precalculus books containing two hundred year old information, I don't see how one more would...- Chandller
