TLC Spot Extraction & Compound Isolation for UV ID
What I'm referring to is from what I read here: http://www.chemicalforums.com/index.php?topic=50163.0 I was going to try what you mentioned from a practical point but was wondering if anyone knew about this. Also, what about my second dilemma regarding extraction to solutions of different pH...- ~christina~

TLC Spot Extraction & Compound Isolation for UV ID
I am wondering what is the best method to use to extract a compound that is separated by TLC by the liquid extraction method following spot isolation (visualization using UV and scraping absorbent silica from plate) for identification by UV spectroscopy. I originally used methanol for...- ~christina~

Advantage/Purpose of Transmission vs Absorbance in calibration curve
Ah, that makes sense since that is what it was. I haven't seen something like this before. This explains what I'm seeing and probably the question I guess. Thanks Borek!- ~christina~

Advantage/Purpose of Transmission vs Absorbance in calibration curve
Hm, It looks exactly the same to me as it is plotted except they just used linear regression to find the best fit line which left the last point out. It was a bit straighter though. I just noticed something odd I didn't take notice of before for some reason. This may be why it was strange...- ~christina~

Advantage/Purpose of Transmission vs Absorbance in calibration curve
I have converted the values based on approximation of the values given on the graph (just have the graph). Values based on my eyeball view: % T values (concentration) => 80% (0.05%), 60% (0.10%); 45% (0.15%), 32% (0.20%), 22% (0.25%), 17% (0.30%), 15% (0.35%) conversion: Abs value...- ~christina~

Advantage/Purpose of Transmission vs Absorbance in calibration curve
Homework Statement The problem involves a calibration curve which was created and where % T vs concentration was favored for use over the usual Absorbance vs concentration and a question of why would this be used in favor over the latter relationship curve was presented. other details...- ~christina~

What Are Some Tips for Successful Gardening?
A side comment regarding squirrels eating plant bulbs: You can try growing daffodil bulbs around the lilly bulbs or anything else you would like to grow since they are toxic and squirrels avoid them or so I've heard. One of my previous instructors mentioned that she had a problem with tulips...- ~christina~

What Are Some Tips for Successful Gardening?
I've started my collection of orchids. I admit I'm a little obsessed with them. :-p Here are a few that I have. A sunset colored phalaenopsis. I found that it was a bit waterlogged and sick when I purchased it. A miltoniopsis orchid also known as a pansy orchid. Another...- ~christina~

Is There Another Missing Baby Case Like Casey Anthony's?
The "chance" that is described is all dependent on how it is looked at. It depends on the group (is it the 1/x chance that DNA sample would match someone of x nationality who is female/male in a x location) that is looked at. Sometimes I think they look at all the probabilities and pick the...- ~christina~
