I have a question about building a tensile tester
For the sake of knowledge, I'd like to ask few questions. Although not now, I'm thinking of building my own cheap tensile testing machine that isn't used for testing on ones with such heavy loads like commercial machine. 1. For the uper body, I'm just planning to start by connecting with...- christyu

Why are commercial tension testing machines so expensive
thank you for the suggestion, I think I should've have used "technical detail" as I'm not really looking for such broad information. I just would like to hear your opinion on this.- christyu

Need help with choosing the right load cell?
Thank you for the response. We're pretty much just using standard vertical axis tensile tester set up with load cell installed top and bottom (framework using aluminum extrusion using nuts and bolts). We'll be using standard ASTM D638 miniature specimen to test the tension. we'll be using...- christyu

Need help with choosing the right load cell?
Hey guys, my group is building a tensile tester for testing 3d printed parts as specimen(standard ASTM D638). We're trying to use cheap parts to build the machine and I would like to ask you guys something about load cell. When choosing which load cells to buy, what conditions should I consider...- christyu

Threaded Bolts in Aluminium - Strength Info Needed
Thanks for the response, I hope I'm not taking too much of your time as I'm really new at these stuff. I have few more questions. 1. So if I just find the strength of steel bolt, it'll show the strength not involving aluminum. What kind of difference is there going to be when involving...- christyu

Threaded Bolts in Aluminium - Strength Info Needed
1. Wait I don't understand. So you're saying the standard steel bolt with steel thread will cause deformation for aluminum extrusion and steel bolts with aluminum threads are almost never used for aluminum extrusion? Then what type of bolt really works? 2. We didn't really determine the any...- christyu

Threaded Bolts in Aluminium - Strength Info Needed
wait is this aluminum bolt threaded into aluminum or steel bolt threaded into aluminum? I'm actually looking for steel bolt threaded into aluminum.- christyu

Threaded Bolts in Aluminium - Strength Info Needed
thank you for the file and responses. But I checked pg. 4 and they only seem to be giving out dimensions with no strength properties.- christyu

Threaded Bolts in Aluminium - Strength Info Needed
1. So we can't just get information for strength properties of aluminum threaded bolt just in general overall? or possibly list of these based on various grades and sizes? we didn't specifically choose a model yet and would like to obtain some information. 2. I just would like to make sure I...- christyu

Threaded Bolts in Aluminium - Strength Info Needed
http://www.faztek.net/img/mless_app.jpg well the bolt will be used to join 2 aluminum extrusions similar to the picture above I guess to analyze the shear and deformation. But don't bolts have strength properties like ultimate shear strength and possible for aluminum threaded ones of their own?- christyu

Threaded Bolts in Aluminium - Strength Info Needed
I'm looking for any information about the typical strength for bolts that are threaded into aluminium. I've tried googling them but I'm having hard time finding information; I've tried looking through machinery's handbook and it doesn't seem to be showing the information for this specifically...- christyu

I'm wishing for a miracle -- Advice on my senior design project please....
thank you very much for fast replies! Regarding the "start designing something", yes I do agree with you. I tried to find online on how tension tester is generally built in detail because if I understood the fundamental function and structure, I would be able to take part in discussing with the...- christyu
