Undergrad Solving a Thought Problem: Growing a Field of Crops from Scratch
just a (random) thought problem I've been trying to get my mind around... :p lets say we wish to grow a field of crops from scratch 'x' number of new baby crops 'appear' (or begin to visibly exist) on this field per time unit (Eg. days). hence in 't' time, we will have a total of tx baby...- Crazyevox

Graduate Video inside: could someone explain how this works?
http://www.woodencigars.com/vwftp.html I don't get it... my face was like O_O at the end of the video he uses e=mc^2 to explain how his "energy" goes into produce "mass". But can it be explained from a more mathematical/geometrical perspective too?- Crazyevox

Graduate Deriving gravitational redshift using the energy change approach
An extremely elementary question but... Lets say we had a spaceship sitting on Earth under the influence of gravity. Light travels from the ship's floor to the ceiling. An observer 'A' stands near the ceiling. Hence the light loses gravitational potential energy, and therefore decreases...- Crazyevox

Why does sound travel faster in warm air?
I thought sound always travels faster in a denser medium - For eg, it travels faster in water than in air. And I believe that's because the molecules are packed closer together, so the vibrations are transferred faster between them, hence more speed. But then why does sound travel in less...- Crazyevox

Help with drawing gradients along error bars
Homework Statement I have a set of data which clearly shows a linear trend. I've hand-drawn the y-axis error bars for the data (x-axis errors are negligible), and a trendline (without any mathematical/statistical techniques). The trendline stays well within each of the error bars...- Crazyevox

'Undersquare' vs. 'Oversquare' pistons? Need Help
I have another issue I need help with... I've heard that piston speed is directly proportional to stroke length. Could someone prove this, possibly by derivation?- Crazyevox

'Undersquare' vs. 'Oversquare' pistons? Need Help
Well I kind of disagree with the fact that the stroker provides higher torque because of its leverage. I think there's something that compensates for that extra leverage effect... Oversquare pistons have a larger surface area affected by the gas pressure. Hence Force on piston = Pressure...- Crazyevox

'Undersquare' vs. 'Oversquare' pistons? Need Help
Could you kindly elaborate a bit further? So does that imply that oversquare pistons are indeed capable of producing more max power than strokers of the same displacement volume? Basically, for the same disp volume, given a fixed number of revs, shouldn't both pistons produce the same...- Crazyevox

'Undersquare' vs. 'Oversquare' pistons? Need Help
Thanks for your reply! I've googled this a bit and I find several sources claiming the same... but I haven't found any source saying both types produce the same power if they have same displacement. If that was the case, why would say, sports car makers prefer oversquare designs... wouldn't...- Crazyevox

'Undersquare' vs. 'Oversquare' pistons? Need Help
'Undersquare' vs. 'Oversquare' pistons?? Need Help! hi I'm a high school student doing a little research on the performance applications of oversquare and undersquare pistons in car engines... btw, oversquare = pistons with bore:stroke ratio > 1 undersquare = pistons with bore:Stroke...- Crazyevox
