High School Varibles/Eclipsing Binary systems
Thanks for the link. But I cannot seem to find any variable stars with periods of only a few hours. I need to find some in the northern hemisphere so I can make real time photometric measurements.- Cyclotron

Undergrad ExoPlanet Hunting: Observing Stars with Celestron C11 XLT
Hi there, Im wondering if it is possible to observe a known star that is known to have a Jupiter planet orbiting it, and analyse its light intensity to search for the planet with a Celestron C11 XLT and a CCD? Examining its spectra with some computer software. Its a thought for my final...- Cyclotron

Graduate Why Does Light Bend Around Massive Objects?
Oh yes I am well aware of Einsteins G.Relativity warping and bending spacetime. I just wasnt sure that if light followed the curvature of spacetime. But you made it clear now. Thanks!- Cyclotron

Graduate Why Does Light Bend Around Massive Objects?
Why does light bend when it encounters a black hole or a star? Does a black hole have a refractive index? It must depend on its mass if it does. A star can produce an effect knows as gravitational lensing which bends light in much the same way as an optical lens bends light, how does this...- Cyclotron

Undergrad Final Year Project Ideas: Astronomy with a Celestron Telescope
That is what I always dreamed of going into after my education ie planet hunting. This is amazing! The problem is though I live in Dublin, and Dublin does not offer any high mountains to escape some of the atmospheric noise.. Is it still possible to observe from sea level? Also clear nights...- Cyclotron

Undergrad Final Year Project Ideas: Astronomy with a Celestron Telescope
Hi there, I am entering my 3rd year of my physics degree and I recently purchased a Celestron 11'' Schmidt Cassegrain telescope. My lecturer advised me before the summer holidays to work on an area of astronomy/astrophysics for my final year project. Would anyone have any ideas on what I...- Cyclotron

Undergrad Celestron 11" Schmidt Cassegrain: Choosing the Right Model
I received a 40mm plossl eyepiece with it. I have the celestron eyepiece and filter kit on order at the moment so I should receive it within the next few days. Can You name some decent eyepiece manufacturers for me? I also got the NexImage SolarSystem Imager and I downloaded Registax too...- Cyclotron

Undergrad Celestron 11" Schmidt Cassegrain: Choosing the Right Model
Thanks for the links Russ, the Jupiter images look really nice. I had a nice peek at the crystal clear sky last night, but all I got with it was the star diagonal and a widefield lens. I observed Jupiter and two of its moons but it was quite small, I could still see cloudbands on it. I just...- Cyclotron

Undergrad Celestron 11" Schmidt Cassegrain: Choosing the Right Model
Ok I got the Celestron 11inch schmidt cassegrain with XLT coatings and GPS with Star Aligner on the German Equatorial Mount. Pretty ******* Huge alright. This is my first telescope and I can see why you would be jealous now. hehe I cannot wait for the sun to set!- Cyclotron

Undergrad Celestron 11" Schmidt Cassegrain: Choosing the Right Model
Hi there, I am purchasing a Celestron 11inch schmidt cassegrain with XLT coatings this week. But I have no become frustrated as to whether to purchase the C11-SGT (XLT) or the CPC 1100 GPS (XLT). I have come to the conclusion that the German Equatorial mount on the C11-SGT is far more...- Cyclotron
