Would there be anyway to harness the neutron? Its mass is relatively great and it move at very fast speeds when ejected. Is there some way to turn that kinetic energy into mechanical? Some kind of neutron turbine... I hope this isn't so theoretical that its annoying.
I just wish that we could use the ejected particles and EM waves from radiation. Maybe we could created some kind of electromagnet to make the direction of high energy particles more coherent. Is that even possible? I just feel that there must be a better way to extract energy other than boiling...
Is there any possible way to extract energy that isn't in terms of heat in a nuclear reaction? It seems like a very passive way to collect energy. There are many medium transports from the reactor to the actual steam turbine (e.g. supercritical water, molten sodium, etc). Is there any proposed...
I understand that there are inherent risks when doing an explosive project... Are you saying that I should use a bell nozzle instead of the annular aerospike nozzle? Also does anyone have a good fuel combo? i.e. rubber and NO2 (like SpaceShipOne) or plexi and GOX (what I mentioned above). Should...
Ok so I'm no grad student asking for help on a research project. I'm a senior in high school that is totally burnt out when it comes to the daily grind. I think I found a project, that hopefully is possible, and that will take me oodles of time and feed my hunger for education without a stupid...
Have they started using new reactors like this? From what I can understand from the thread above is that the gamma rays that are used to create visible light lowers the amount of gamma rays used to heat the reactor. Thus lowering the amount of power for heat transfer/carnot cycle. Meaning that...
Yeah, I was also. Thinking about Newton's each action has an equal and opposite reaction, could the BigDog kick back at the same force that it was kicked? Because the force to move the dog would have to be balanced out by the dogs force to right itself?
That was pretty sweet. That battery pack looks awfully clunky. Those models of could be designs look quite promising. I'm pretty sure those will be as autonomous as the UAVs of today aka not really at all. Anyways having a plane being autonomous is a lot easier then having a humanoid robot doing...
I mean BigDog is one of the greater machines out there that can mimic that kind of fluid motion. I'm not trying to say that BigDog is the lowest of the low. I'm saying that in comparison its a small step.
Does anybody else love science fiction? Does it involve bipedal machines? Did you really like all of the Metal Gear Solid games? I ditto all of the above!
But one question strikes me (besides asking myself if Hal Emerich scientific lingo actually makes sense) how will we power these...
I don't know if this is the right place to post this but here goes. I'm a Highschool student building a nitrogen laser for an independent research project. I don't know much about lasers besides what I've read in physics textbooks and amateur laser pages. My and my mentor have already...
I know this is a slightly old thread... I'm a high school student and I'm going to admit that I probably don't know much in the grand scheme of physics but why do you need florescence as a "middle man"? Gamma rays ionize in three different ways into matter: photoelectric, compton scattering and...
