Schools Choosing a thesis in graduate school + adviser
When you're going for a master's/phd and you're choosing a thesis, does your adviser's research field have to be the same as the field you're studying, or does he/she just have to be familiar with it? Say you're aiming to go to a university but the professors there are unfamiliar with your...- dankshu

Do I follow my heart and do physics, or do I do what is reasonable and stable?
i'm starting to see a trend here... I've met so many people (including myself) torn between (exactly!) physics and pharmacy I self study physics in my spare time. sure, i'll probably only get c's in pharm school, but that's just a degree anyways. i hope to find a physics club in my school to...- dankshu

What is Athene's Theory of Everything?
(don't need to explain the content here, just watch the videos). A while ago, some World of Warcraft player posted these sets of videos. Later, a bunch of people started swarming over them like 10 year olds to a new pokemon game. They claim it makes so much sense and can't be understood by...- dankshu

Graduate What makes one type of mathematical modeling more difficult than the other?
I'm guessing it depends on how many factors/how unpredictable a subject is, what is it really? What makes mathematical finance so rigorous- requiring a phd in math/finance- while something like systems biology or pharmacokinetics only requires knowledge up to linear algebra?- dankshu

How late is too late (to get an education)?
I had a professor who worked minimum wage jobs until he was 24, and started college at 25, without a high school education. He got his phd in his 30s, but since the past 40 years, he's met with world leaders and various economists over policy issues. never too late. you won't get a nobel...- dankshu

Graduate Which is more difficult: pure or applied mathematics?
Forgive me, I only took some courses in math and am not a mathematician, but what do applied mathematicians actually do? I look at the programs for applied mathematicians and it seems that, although they're heavy in computer programming work, they have to take a bunch of analysis classes and...- dankshu

How to convince my parents to be physicist
Okay, so I talked this over with my parents, and they said they'd allow me to get a masters only if I complete the pharmD (by then I'll be able to support myself and don't need their money). So what I'm planning to do is to find research related to math/pharmaceuticals in my university and try...- dankshu

How to convince my parents to be physicist
Thanks for the replies. So does anyone know if I can get into a chemical engineering grad program using just a pharmD? I think I might have a shot with some drug delivery systems modeling... but I will have no experience with computers, due to being a pharmacist.- dankshu

How to convince my parents to be physicist
I'm in my first year of pharmacy, and my undergrad was biology, which I managed to complete in 3 years (I took organic chemistry in high school too). I'm interested in the finance aspect too, but their minds are set on pharmacy because they think it's what 'ties me' to them, because they chose...- dankshu

How to convince my parents to be physicist
So to keep this short, I'm a student at the pharm D program in south carolina. I took some undergrad courses in analysis and physics and did very well in them and I want to become a physicist now. However, my parents are convinced (and they're somewhat right) that physicists don't get jobs, and...- dankshu
