Master in Physics vs. Bachelors in Engineering?
Hey everybody, I am trying to decide whether I should go to either SDSU or Cal Poly (SLO) for my masters in mathematics. The conflict I am having is that SDSU offers a wide selection of graduate courses, but has a small faculty which negatively impacts the availability of those courses. For...- Danton

How much Math do I Have to Study Before I Know What's Going On?
I would agree with Sankaku. After taking my first course in Algebra I began to see some of the underlying structure in subjects like number theory and combinatorics. Luckily I'll get to experience Analysis next quarter- Danton

Preventing my Math skills from becoming rusty
I would agree with that. The most common problem I see when I tutor freshman in calc 1 classes is that they have completely forgotten basic algebra. Basically you want these skills to be second nature so that you can focus all your attention on the problem at hand. As far as trig goes, it...- Danton

Where Should I Start with Theoretical Math?
If you want to get a general idea of what upper division mathematics is then I would recommend "A Concise Introduction to Pure Mathematics." It gives a nice introduction to basic set theory, proofs and induction, though the sections can be a bit short. I would also recommends Pinter's book...- Danton

Can You Succeed in Calculus II Without Completing Calculus I?
You seem to have your work cut out for you since the main purpose of Calc 2 is to teach techniques of integration. The benefit is that the second half of the course deals primarily with things like sequences, series and their convergence/divergence (wont see any integrals during this part...- Danton

AP Physics: The Impact on Success in Physics and Engineering
another idea would be to take a physics class at a community college during the summer. I'm not sure what the costs are like in idaho, but in san diego it's only $26 per unit.- Danton
