Unraveling the Mystery of Electrical Phases

In that picture drawing can i get more info explained on how the two phases that are taking from the powerplant that are 120 degrees out of phase relative to neutral are then changed to 180 degrees out of phase

Unraveling the Mystery of Electrical Phases

Here you say 2 phases of the high voltage power supply are connected to the transformer and further down the post someone quotes that one leg is attached to the transformer (assuming the other side is hooked up to earth). Which one is correct or can it be done either way? what would be the point...

Unraveling the Mystery of Electrical Phases

Everyone else is saying they are out of phase by 180 degrees... are you saying this becuase they are only 180 degrees out of phase relative to the center tap?

Unraveling the Mystery of Electrical Phases

These two phases from the high voltage power supply are they 120 degrees out of phase of each other before they hit the transformer? what changes them to 180 degrees out of phase?

Unraveling the Mystery of Electrical Phases

Hi, I am struggling with finding info on Electrical Phases. I understand that Single Phase is simply one ac signal, and I understand that 3 phase is 3 independent ac signals, all of which are exactly 120 degrees out of phase. My struggle comes in when I think about 220 volt dryer hookup in my...

Primary winding and secondary winding wraped around a iron core

Can you explain in more detail please

How far do electrons travel in a 120 volt circuit?

hmm i don't understand why the voltage at the neutral side of the plug is zero i thought that the voltage is pushing back and forth from the Earth if there's a load on the plug

How far do electrons travel in a 120 volt circuit?

why do you get a electrical shock from touching a neutral wire on a plug that has a load on it but back at the panel if you touch the neutral bar you do not get a shock

Primary winding and secondary winding wraped around a iron core

If you connect one lead of the primary winding to 7.2k volts and the other lead of the primary to Earth isn't this a short circuit? Isn't it like connecting a hot wire in your house to ground what am i missing here

Primary winding and secondary winding wraped around a iron core

Just need one thing cleared up when you are talking about the PD between the two is the same do you mean between one phase an the center tap? What if i where to connect a tap 3/4 of the way in the coil to Earth what would the voltages be from each phase to earth? And also does this connection i...

Primary winding and secondary winding wraped around a iron core

I got a few questions about transformers.. I understand there is a primary winding and secondary winding wraped around a iron core. Now for the primary connection - take 7.2kv 1 phase line and connect it to one side of the winding and take ground (earth) to the other winding end. On the...

How far do electrons travel in a 120 volt circuit?

thanks that makes total sense to me that the middle would be 0 volts. So would they light up and work without taping into the middle of the two lights. So am i correct and the electrican that i mentioned before that said it woudn't work wrong?

How far do electrons travel in a 120 volt circuit?

Yea i don't plan on ever doing this i would just use 110 from my panel I am just trying to understand the concept. When you say you could also connect the middle of the two bulbs to neutral and it would still work.. I am not understanding this.. and so the 110 bulbs in series across the 240...

How far do electrons travel in a 120 volt circuit?

What if i live in Canada and the voltage in my house is 120/240 its 120 from line to ground. But if i where to connect two lightbulbs 100 watts each in series to 240 would they light up with 120 volts across each? I asked this question to a Electrician friend he says it will not work becuase you...

How far do electrons travel in a 120 volt circuit?

Ok i have a question about the difference between 240 volts and 120 volts. So from my knowledge power will come from a generator somewhere down the road. it will then make it to my house and a transformer will take it to 120/240. i get 240 120 from each line that are out of phase from each...
