Undergrad Warm-up time for a hollow cylinder
Hi Juanda, This diagram represents the situation well, thank you very much for your involvement, it would have been up to me to do it in my first post. Yes, that's it. I don't know what material or combination of materials I'm going to use. Perhaps the outer material (in blue) will be...- defrag

Search for specific near infrared transparent materials
You're right, it would be simpler to buy sheets to place in a fixed structure. The fact is, I was looking for a basic material to make this outdoor structure. I was wondering if I could find a material that would be sufficiently insulating and resistant to the constraints mentioned in my...- defrag

Undergrad Warm-up time for a hollow cylinder
Thanks for your reply. I realize that I first miscalculated the volume by multiplying the insulation thickness by 2, even though we're talking about radius here and not diameter. Instead, we have : V=π*(r^2)*h=π*(0.02-0.007)^2×0.06=3.1855e-5 m3 What do you mean here? Wouldn't you have to...- defrag

Search for specific near infrared transparent materials
Thank you for your reply. From what I've found, the glass transition of PET is 67-81°C and that of polystyrene 100°C. Does this mean that the material becomes soft and loses its initial shape? What do you think of polycarbonate? It can be used up to 120°C and has good infrared transmission. Do...- defrag

Undergrad Warm-up time for a hollow cylinder
Hello all , I need to estimate the time it would take for the inside of a hollow cylinder to reach a limit temperature (detailed data below), in order to adjust the wall thickness and choose an insulating material to delay heating as much as possible. Being a total beginner in thermodynamics, I...- defrag

Search for specific near infrared transparent materials
Hello everyone, I am looking for a material with the following characteristics: - It must be machinable - be as thermally insulating as possible, and resistant to a temperature of at least 100°C - transparent to near-infrared light (~1µm wavelength) - relatively resistant to deformation, for...- defrag
