Why does time require matter ?

I don't think this is an answerable proposition, at least not to any scientifically satisfying degree. If something is literally immeasurable in any conceivable way, how can it be said to exist? But of course your original perspective makes sense as well. *Is* time just the correlations between...

Why does time require matter ?

I dunno, I guess I would also be on the side of those who support the non-existence of an entity if absolutely no way to measure of discern it was even possible. I know this isn't really the same thing but it reminds me of the theological arguments that go like "you can't prove or disprove god"...

Music Music of Science: Expressing the Wonders of Creation

I think it's important that we are always open to new experiences and ideas. So perhaps you're someone who values this. In my observation (and it is just that), most people seem to maintain some sort of permanency in their lives which often includes things like music preference. I can't count...

Music Music of Science: Expressing the Wonders of Creation

Right, that is precisely what I mean. I suppose I could have been more clear the first time hehe. I think it's an important notion to discuss, or think about. I don't think we really start to truly "know" ourselves until much later in life, even in areas that we believe would be easily intuited...

Music Music of Science: Expressing the Wonders of Creation

Well, taken at face value what I said may seem to be nonsense but I assure you there's a good point. Basically I just mean something along the lines of this; people tend towards their own natural dispositions in art and aesthetics in general. We call this "taste". I think this taste is a result...

Music Music of Science: Expressing the Wonders of Creation

I can really visualize this. You've given a very poetic description, I enjoyed it. I suppose everyone can find this kind of beauty in the music they love. Ultimately what moves us is what we consider to be true. I listen to a lot of dark ambient music. Artists like Inade (perhaps my favorite...

Music Music of Science: Expressing the Wonders of Creation

Oh, 2001! Excellent choice, that film as a matter of fact is perhaps my favorite of all time. I have various repeat viewings under my belt ;) I am very attracted to films such as 2001, in that the power of the narrative lies almost solely on the concept of the film, rather than dialogue or...

Music Music of Science: Expressing the Wonders of Creation

That's a valid point. The sounds of nature are very pleasing... heavy thunderstorms are in fact among my top favorite ambient environments. Perfect for relaxation! I guess I did mean to inquire about more human forms of music though, but any addition to the discussion is welcome. I like music...

Music What is music? is it 100% mathematic?

This question simply hearkens to the age old, "What is art?". It's the same thing of course. My own definition would be that music is organized sound. I listen to quite a lot of ambient music, stuff that you would hardly consider to be as such. However it becomes rather obvious once one delves...

Music Music of Science: Expressing the Wonders of Creation

Hi everyone! I haven't posted here in a while, but I lurk pretty much every day. I guess I'm just not as educated as I would like to be for me to feel comfortable in participating with the discussion I enjoy reading... I'm deeply inspired by science and the great mysteries of life and reality...

    Movies for hardcore sci-fi geeks

Both versions are rather good. I really love the remake too; some people disparage the film because it's less science-centric and focuses more on the human aspect and implications of the films ideals. Each films complements the book really well.

Exploring Scientific Drive: Is There a Duty to Benefit Humanity?

The beauty of reality is too enthralling for me to not embrace it fully on the deepest level possible, which I find in science and art.

    How exactly do wormholes work?

Well, we might be just disagreeing on semantics here. Perhaps I'm not weighing as much importance to the word "support" as you might be, I was just bringing up the fact that string theory does at least talk about the idea in a sense. I don't know a lot about it though, so I would like to learn...

    How exactly do wormholes work?

I don't know many technical/mathematical details but I believe string theory somewhat supports the notion through the idea of cosmic strings, which are highly dense pockets of warped gravity (or something along the lines of that). Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, and add more to this line...

What is the origin of subatomic forces?

Maybe not though, at least if we regard the Planck scale as being the most fundamental of theoretically observable scales.
