Stuipd Simple Geometry Question
I was trying to do that, but I couldn't remeber how to square a fraction with a variable in it. I think I did figure it out, finally. Welcome to most of my mathematics career. I can get the right answer, just not the conventional way. That caused a few issues with certain teachers.- dmt740

Stuipd Simple Geometry Question
Forgive me but my algebra days are long gone. I remember some things but I couldn't figure out how to solve those two equations together. I just kept going round in circles. So there has to be an easier way than what I figured out. 9^2 + 16^2 = c^2 81 + 256 = 337 then I took those number...- dmt740

Stuipd Simple Geometry Question
Homework Statement Ok, I need to find the dimensions of a triangle. I have the length of the hypotenuse(sp?) and a ratio of the other sides. And yes, in case you are wondering, I am figuring out TV dimensions. :-/ Homework Equations If using a+b+c, I know c, and the values of A and B...- dmt740

High School Planetary Alignment (nothing to do with astrology)
Interesting idea. Do you know of any commercially(i.e. free) that are available?- dmt740

Graduate Is it Possible to Escape a Black Hole Using a Spaceship and Hawking Radiation?
Probably a meaningless question, but once you cross the event horizon, how fast would you accelerate toward the singularity? Would you ever reach anything close to c before encountering the singularity? Again, probably meaningless, but inquiring minds want to know.- dmt740

High School Planetary Alignment (nothing to do with astrology)
*THIS IS AN ACTUAL QUESTION, NOT A WHAT IF SCENARIO* I just wondered if it has ever happened or could ever happen that all of the planets align? I'm not saying there are any consequences thereof, just want to know if it's realistically possible, why/why not. Basically just because I think it...- dmt740

Forgive me, but... what? -

High School How Does Gravity Change Inside the Earth's Surface?
Ok, using my tube from above, if you scaled down it (as opposed to jumping in) what happens when you get to the center? -

High School How Does Gravity Change Inside the Earth's Surface?
If you could build a tube-like structure that would negate the temperature and pressure at the core, and jumped in, would you then oscillate back and forth continuously, or would you eventually come to rest at the center? -

Undergrad Is Inertia Quantifiable and Measured by SI Units?
Ok, I'm confused now. I thought inertia was the energy of a mass in motion. If the mass is not in motion its only energy is that of the mass itself. If a force is applied to the mass then the inertia is the mass plus the energy that was applied to it. Am I missing something? -

Graduate Black Hole Questions - Answers to Your Queries
Ok, these may be silly questions, but when learning new things I figure you won't know if you don't ask. So here goes: 1. When a star goes supernova and the core collapses into a neutron star, the new star spins fast to conserve angular momentum (I think) and it rotates rapidly. Well if that...- dmt740

Undergrad Why there is more energy released in fusion than fission?
Ah yes, silly me. When saying fuse, I was thinking of similar atoms(ie iron + iron), not just adding particles (which is, of course, also fusion). Is it possible to get heavier elements to fuse together, or would the energy required be too large?- dmt740

Undergrad Why there is more energy released in fusion than fission?
Total newb here, so please point out my lack of understanding. Can elements heavier than iron actually fuse? I thought the way the heavier elements were formed was when a star was about to collapse and iron (or others) picked up stray protons or alphas and became the next element in the line...- dmt740
