News Hillary Clinton Running for President
There is no effective difference. The two party system is good-cop-bad-cop on the world stage, guaranteed to elect a weasel. The Ruling Parties are all progressives suffering from the incontinent need to make-things-better by burying US in mountains of legislation and never rescinding any of...- Doug Huffman

News Hillary Clinton Running for President
My comment will likely go far afield of OPie's intentions. A close paraphrase of Aristotle (Politics 4 ) is "It is accepted as democratic when public offices are allocated by lot; and as oligarchic when they are filled by election." A candidate seeking office must be viewed with deep suspicion.- Doug Huffman

Importance of the frequency of AC mains power lines
To be operated in parallel, AC generators must be in synchronous frequency and providing proportional load, else the lagging machine will be driven as a synchronous motor with resultant increase in current. Load should not affect regulated voltage, imbalanced voltage regulators cause...- Doug Huffman

Does this type of overthinking happen with everyone?
You need a personal solution to the much larger Problem of Demarcation. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demarcation_problem Karl Popper addresses it at length in his Logic of Scientific Discovery, about 800 pages as I recall. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demarcation_problem#Falsifiability- Doug Huffman

News Hillary Clinton Running for President
It's unlikely Hillary is behind the wheel: She said last year that she hadn't driven a car since 1996 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3036385/ROAD-TRIP-Hillary-Clinton-starts-presidential-campaign-1-000-mile-journey-rural-Iowa-VAN-poses-pics-gas-station.html As central to stereotypical...- Doug Huffman

How can I keep track of papers I've read?
You are correct, as I recall, his research notes were claimed to have been destroyed by a failed pipe flooding his home basement. After I retired i helped a friend that maintained a vital records storage warehouse that specialized in medical records and imaging film. Shortly after I left a...- Doug Huffman

Why do my newer laptops run cooler then previous laptops?
The thermal interface paste between the CPU/GPU and cooling system has not yet dried and shrank away from the contact surfaces. More basically, the radiator fins have not yet clogged with dust and hairballs.- Doug Huffman

How can I keep track of papers I've read?
It is imperative that you maintain your bibliographic database, particularly in this day and age of high publication rates, and (suspicions of) plagiarism. Your anecdote is a prime example, "I lost the article." See the controversy over Emory University's Michael Bellesisles' Arming America...- Doug Huffman

Simple test for harmful chemicals in food
Remember a principal of hormesis, it's not the drug but the dose. Chemicals are harmful only in adequate quantity. The Square of Opposition logic is very interesting.- Doug Huffman

News Hillary Clinton Running for President
You mistake me. Her use of Twitter instead of the mainstream media is an attempt to avoid media scrutiny. There's not much in 140 characters to scrutinize. Her past performance in elected positions, appointed positions and unappointed positions precludes my approval.- Doug Huffman

A meaning of astroturf is a claque posing as a grassroots movement or clique. Another is artificial grass used on American football grounds and that her hubby bragged was in the bed of his El Camino 'pick-up' truck.- Doug Huffman
