Interesting developments and good discussion! I don't understand why the concept of bounce isn't the most naturally appealing of all. Just replaying the expansion in 3D (letting the arrow of time reverse) gives a nice symmetric vectorless mass point, perfect to "bounce off" - no "steel wall"...
