Magnetic fields outside a shielded power cable

I was recently having a discussion about magnetic fields outside of a shielded power cable. My understanding up to this point was shielded cables only shields electric fields and not magnetic fields which are associated with current flow inside a cable. For the shielding to shield magnetic...

Is Voltage Really the Main Concern When it Comes to Electrical Safety?

But a capacitor would still push full current momentarily. .. thinking back to circuit analysis (its been a couple months so I may be wrong) I=C dv/dt or I (current)=I(initial)e^-at... so once you close the circuit with your finger should you not momentarily feel a full current associated with...

Is Voltage Really the Main Concern When it Comes to Electrical Safety?

I think I know where this may go... a taser is a non ideal current source with a peak voltage of 20kv so when your add a load... say your skin... the voltage would drop

Edit :I didnt read all posts before comment ting

Is Voltage Really the Main Concern When it Comes to Electrical Safety?

How can u have a high applied voltage without current though? Since your voltage is just of your current times resistance? So if you have a device that outputs a high voltage and low current you must have a set resistance for such a value. So I always look at it as your voltage divided by...

Is Voltage Really the Main Concern When it Comes to Electrical Safety?

As an electrician I hear it far too often that its not the voltage that kills, its the current. I find it fustrating because I've worked with people who fear car batterys because their high amperage output or got electrocuted by 600v and turns around to tell me good thing voltage dosent kill...

Air Ionizers and Charging Objects: Possibilities?

Im studying at the University of Alberta(found in Canada). I just finished my c/c++ but my study notes are a bit confusing(portions missing). I am going to guess all your classes are based in english? What year of study are you? should I be worried about any health aspects with possibly over...

Air Ionizers and Charging Objects: Possibilities?

That seems to be the same conclusion I have come to. I did some calculations and it seems like it may need to have a large charge on the projectile to have an effect and I have some doubts an ionizer would place a large enough charge. But I am just hoping for some change in direction nothing big

Air Ionizers and Charging Objects: Possibilities?

Is there methods of applying a charge on a conductive material through an air medium. I am just starting 3rd year EE so it would be nice to have something not too complex.

Air Ionizers and Charging Objects: Possibilities?

Yes your right about my question.Well I am trying to place a charge on a thrown or fired projectile then using a magnetic field to effect the direction of it. I was hoping that the contact of the negative ions in the air would cause a negative charge in the projectile.

Air Ionizers and Charging Objects: Possibilities?

Im trying to work on a project and was curious if anyone knew if an air ionizer could be used to place a charge on objects moving through the air. If so what could be the magnitude of the charge of such an objects? The setting of the area would be probably out side but if necessary indoors.

Dynamics Conservation of linear and angular momentum

so why does mvr + Igw= Iaw? what is r suppose to represent? i thought it was just the distance of the mass center to the point of which the moment is being rotated about in this case Ia

Dynamics Conservation of linear and angular momentum

Attached file shows where my problem occurs. I understand how to get the angular momentum just before the collision. But what confuses me is is within the square. Why mvg(r) is only on the left hand side when I've had similar equations with it on both sides. Why is Ig used and why isn't Ib used...

EE looking to go into consulting (automation)

Well yeah when I said after my designation I mean 10 years after I've been in the field... I was looking to apply at a consulting company that advertise positions at my school until I know what I'm doing inside and out I would also like to learn what I can before hand so if I get the...
