Electrical Engineering and Physics
Many universities offer degrees in engineering physics, you should look into it. The way my school's program (CU-Boulder) is set up is that you take the same physics and math curriculum as an Arts and Science physics major but instead of arts and science electives you take engineering electives...- edtman

Schools Apply to Good Undergrad Schools for Fall 2005: Colorado Univ, UT-Austin, Tulsa
Congratulations on your acceptance! You're going to love Boulder and the program. Grants and scholarships are available but don't expect a full ride. I have a 3.9 GPA and am no longer a dependent of my parents and I'm still expected to pay some in-state tuition. Then again I don't volunteer...- edtman

How much money do Physicists make?
don't let your parents pick YOUR career Your parents mean well but that doesn't justify them trying to pressure you into a career you don't want. My parent's talked me out of going into an engineering discipline and into a prelaw/foreign service/international business track. I studied...- edtman

Late Starter looking for advice
Yeah, they did eventually merge telemetry systems and another afsc (space systems maintenance maybe) into the 2E1X1 career field. It sound like telemetry systems was the job to have. Some guys I worked with in Korea came from telemetry systems backgrounds and they worked with the Aria (or...- edtman

Sat Comm tech? We may know each other or at least the same people. I was a 2E151:Satellite Wideband Communications tech. I finished tech school at Ft Gordon in 1999, then I was stationed at Robins AFB 99-01; Camp Humphreys, Korea 01-02 and Schriever AFB 02-03. Any of those places ring a bell...- edtman

Late Starter looking for advice
I say do what you want to do because it's something you'll enjoy doing, be good at and can more than likely find a way to make a living doing. I can relate somewhat to your situation. I enlisted right after high school and did 5 years in the Air Force knowing I wanted to go to college but...- edtman

Schools Apply to Good Undergrad Schools for Fall 2005: Colorado Univ, UT-Austin, Tulsa
consider CU I'm a junior engineering physics major at CU-Boulder and so far I'm very satisfied with the quality of education I'm receiving. I don't think the undergraduate program is ranked nationally but don't let that discourage you. The graduate optics and atomic physics programs are...- edtman

Undergrad Satellite Orbits: Meteostat Geostationary Orbit Explained
It may be that Meteostat is either slightly above or below the required altitude for a 24 hour orbit; or its inclination may not be exactly 0 degrees.- edtman

What a great post. I was thinking of this exact question while mountain biking today... -

Undergrad How Can a Physics Student Find Practical Experience During Summer Break?
You should pick up the book "Thinking Physics" by Epstein. 500 pages of physics concept tests and puzzles with excellent explanations. It requires hardly any advanced math skills so you can solidify some of the concepts you learned during the school year without having to worry about the math...- edtman

Physics Is it difficult to find jobs for physics graduates in today's job market?
Also, I wouldn't be so quick to say that a degree in mechanical engineering will guarantee you a job. If you look at the DoL's occupational handbook the amount of new jobs is growing at a slower rate than that of new grads. It makes sense-look at what types of jobs have been moving...- edtman

Physics Is it difficult to find jobs for physics graduates in today's job market?
Wait! Before you make any life changing decisions look at engineering science again. I'm an Engineering Physics major at CU-Boulder and if Eng Science is anything like CU's Eng physics program you'd be better off taking that for your undergrad. and picking your electives to tailor towards a...- edtman

High School Which Tennis Ball Hits the Ground First?
Are you sure two cars rolling because of wind is analogous to two tennis balls falling? Isn't the force you're trying to overcome to make the cars roll static friction? And isn't static friction determined by the (static coefficient)*Normal where Normal equals MASS times gravity? So by this... -

Undergrad What Triggers Hydrazine Decomposition in Space?
To answer my own question...after reading what I wrote and reviewing the good-ol' chemistry text. First of all I meant combustion in the most liberal use of the word, since oxygen and burning is required for true combustion to occur. What happens is the irridium acts as a catalyst to induce a...- edtman

Undergrad What Triggers Hydrazine Decomposition in Space?
Hi, I know this is a chemistry question but I was hoping there'd be a kind soul with a chemistry background whose willing to help! The space research group I work for has 2 satellites which have hydrazine (N2H4) monopropellant thrusters. From what I understand the pressurized hydrazine is...- edtman
