Accuracy of 8bits vs 16bits vs 32bits microcontrollers
As people have said, there is no such thing as accuracy when we speak about uControllers. 8bit micro can do all the operation with 32bit integers or float type variables correctly just as 32 bit uC would, however 8 bit micro would need longer time, since the 32 bit variable will need to be...- Electropioneer

Digital or Analog Signal Inversion
Would an opamp inverter work for you? Or a simple transistor? PS what do you mean simple high level approach?- Electropioneer

Getting Started with Maxwell 3D (ANSOFT)
I tried the same file on the PC with new version of maxwell, and it was working just fine. So, i guess it might have been a bug in the software. On the different note, I wish maxwell would give some more info on the errors it gives out, not just, "failed to evaluate calculation". That might...- Electropioneer

Which Power Supply Should I Buy for Long-Term Use?
I am astounded by number of bad advice on this topic! First of all, power supply IS one of the most important things you need to have on your test bench. 1)If you are testing something, you need power to be available at an instant. You don't want to go trough box of old wall warts! 2) You must...- Electropioneer

Getting Started with Maxwell 3D (ANSOFT)
Hi guys! I have tried to do the analysis of Magnetic Rotational Actuator, described step by step in Maxwell's example files. I am using Maxwell 14. I have completed the whole process, but when i try to do the simulation i get: [error] Failed to load 'Matrix1' solution. (12:24:29 AM Sep...- Electropioneer

How Can I Build a Digital Color Organ?
If you decide to make your own PCB (it takes some skill and persistence, but it's not hard) you could: 1) get normal micro controller for 3$ instead of Arduino. (never was an arduino fan, don't know why, i just hate the damn thing) 2) Get 3 simple led driver chips for 6-9$ MAX! That driver is...- Electropioneer

Need help upscaling this circuit for leds.
Don't worry, lol, it's simpler than that. the light source in that thing is simple led diodes, not xenon bulbs. There is probably some transistor that pulls cathodes of those leds to the ground, you could brake the original circuit before the base of that trans., and use that transistor as as...- Electropioneer

Why Is Saturation Mode Preferred for Biasing MOSFETs?
You are right about this. I see my mistake. I was using the wrong terminology and I apologize if I confused someone. Sure it is real, you take it into account every time you add voltage drop across any PN Junction, you just don't care about it's value. This is turning into a good old...- Electropioneer

What happened to fuel-cell technology?
There are some interesting things happening in the UK on the Hydrogen storage front. I am waiting for the paper with results discussed in this video. It got me excited when i first saw it, but since then i couldn't find any new information about it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzqAkHPnpJM- Electropioneer

Need help upscaling this circuit for leds.
Well, if he knew what he wants to drive with that circuit, we might recommend something. I had a feeling he just wanted some backlight to fall on the wall of his dorm room, not 3x100 W spotlights, but who knows.- Electropioneer

Need help upscaling this circuit for leds.
Ok I have few ideas. I checked DealExtreme for something you might use. They have bunch of really dirt cheap stuff that i wouldn't mind breaking apart. Check out this 10$ strobe. They probably come with small transformer inside you might use for power source, so you might fit everything inside...- Electropioneer

Why Is Saturation Mode Preferred for Biasing MOSFETs?
Thanks for the reply analogdesign. First of all, i know what you are saying, but I believe you misunderstood me. 1) If you look at I-V diagrams of both types of transistors, then yes MOSFET's saturation region corresponds to active region of BJT. However, that is inherently bad analogy since...- Electropioneer

Need help upscaling this circuit for leds.
Well, that's very simple actually. First you should give us more info on those "led spotlight type lights". Basically what you have here: First OP amp acts as an audio amp, it filters DC components of a signal then amplifies it since most audio sources are about 3V peek to peek. Then you have...- Electropioneer

Why Is Saturation Mode Preferred for Biasing MOSFETs?
We use Mosfets in Saturation mode, for exactly the same reasons we use BJ Transistor in saturation mode. If you wish to use MOSFET as a simple switch (equivalent to mechanical switch) then it is in your best interest to have minimal loss of energy across that switch. That's why you would want to...- Electropioneer
