How to Solve the Inverse Cable Problem: Examples and Method Explained

cable problem Hi, I'm doing some self study on the subject of cables and I am curious about the reversed process of working out the linear mass density when given the shape of the cable (instead of the usual case of determining the shape of the cable given the density). The text I am...

    Absolute stability question -

Absolute stability question - urgent! Hi, I wasn't too sure what section to put this in but I'm currently working on an exercise regarding absolute stability in the class Numerical Solutions of ODEs. Here is the graph i have produced on Matlab and I am suppose to comment on it. The graph...

Graph function help - fluid mechanics/streamlines related

Graph function help please - fluid mechanics/streamlines related I'm not too sure whether I should have posted this in the Physics section or in the maths  Please move this topic if its in the wrong place! this probably seems like a silly question but is it possible to plot x*y +...

Understanding Odd and Even Permutations in Linear Algebra - Quick Help

Linear Algebra help -urgent! Hi, I'm doing a bit of self learning on Linear Algebra but I'm kinda confused with the information given on odd and even permutations? How do you determine whether a permutation is odd or even? For example, the book has given some examples such as: (1 2 3...

How Can Proofs Enhance Understanding of Linear Algebra Theorems?

Hi, I'm currently self-studying Linear Algebra and I've come across a few Theorems in the text that I am reading. However, a lot of them just gives the general theorem and statements without proofs  and personally I find looking through derived proofs give me a better understanding...

Understanding Centralizers and Centers in Groups for Algebra Students"

Hi, I'm currently self studying from an Algebra book but I'm having problems understanding the definition of the centralizer and center in a group  Like for example what is C(a) and Z(G) for the Quaternion group? Can someone help? Many thanks!

Linear Algebra: Help with Span Proofs

lol yeah i had to re-read JasonRox's post and realized it was scalar multiplication  There's an example here in the book where the author has taken two matrices, added them together and then multiplied them by a scalar, hence concluding that the set is a subspace of the matrix...

Linear Algebra: Help with Span Proofs

Hmm okay I think I'll have to think over that carefully...just out of curiosity, what would the 2x2 matrix M_{2\times 2}(P_2'), look like if I had to write it out? Like what would the elements be called compared to M_{2\times 2}(P), matrix?
