Graduate Electric power for lift and torque
One tonne dead-weight is to be lifted in the air and moved horizontally by means of a propeller activated by electric motor. Questions: (1) What is the electric power (components U, I) sufficient and necessary for the task? (2) If, instead of (1), the generated electric field is used to...- elmarsur

High School Existence of electromagnetic field
Thank you again. I just have a vague sense that there is an electromagnetic "potential" (not as in voltage, but as in "ready to manifest itself"). Let's say that I drop or drag a ferromagnetic loop through space, atmosphere. Do I find charges on it?- elmarsur

High School Existence of electromagnetic field
Thank you very much, Sophie. I am aware of the phenomenon and I apologize for not having been more explicit in my question. Trying again: Does anywhere (in atmosphere, space) exist naturally an electromagnetic field? More graphically: I have a closed loop, and am looking for an...- elmarsur

High School Existence of electromagnetic field
Do electric and magnetic fields occur simultaneously in the same spot anywhere around the globe? (other than during solar flares) If the field is named "electromagnetic" wouldn't that means exactly this simultaneity? Thank you.- elmarsur

What probability distribution applies?
If winning is in streaks of 10, 100, 1000 then each p is raised to those powers. But if it is done haltingly (e.g., to win 10 games ahead of Paul, Peter wins 7 in a row, then loses 2, then wins again 5 in a row) how could this be represented? Thank you, if anyone still looks here.- elmarsur

What probability distribution applies?
Homework Statement Peter and Paul bet one dollar each on each game. Each is willing to allow the other unlimited credit. Use a calculator to make a table showing, to four decimal places, for each of p = 1/10, 1/3, .49, .499, .501, .51, 2/3, 9/10 the probabilities that Peter is...- elmarsur

Probability generating function
Thank you very much, LC! I imagine that there isn't any significant difference between MGF and PGF (probability), the latter being a special application of the first?! If so, I still have a couple of questions: 1) Do the formulae apply to all sorts of probability distributions/densities...- elmarsur
