Automotive The effect of a flywheel on a car's launch
I want to ask another question. The formula dL/dT=Torque doesn't account for the doubling effect of speed?I mean,if RPM doubles, the energy must also double so torque should be four times more?- Emre

Automotive The effect of a flywheel on a car's launch
Crankshaft's inertia is not even compareble to that of flywheel, actually. In a given gear, the car accelerates the fastest at torque peak moment. However, you can always do better by downshifting, bringing the RPM to max power. There is only one gear we aren't able to do this, the first gear.So...- Emre

Automotive The effect of a flywheel on a car's launch
I have been doing research still.I realized that I hadn't taken into account the effect of crankshaft. After all,it decelerates just as flywheel does.Assuming 2 kgm^2 for inertia gives really really huge amount of torque. If we add the flywheel effect to this,I think we can understand why high RPM...- Emre

Automotive The effect of a flywheel on a car's launch
I actually used 1 second :) .But isn't there a dividor mr^2/2 in the formula for the disc?- Emre

Automotive The effect of a flywheel on a car's launch
The formula is mr^2/2 for the disc.It gives me 0.098 kgm^2.Multiplying this with the acceleration doesn't yield a good torque value.- Emre

Automotive The effect of a flywheel on a car's launch
So this is exactly a good illustration of what I say. This car produces 320 Nm between 1750-2500 or so.But it launches at a very high RPM,therefore tires slip too much. You can also hear the hiccup when the driver shifts to second gear.- Emre

Automotive The effect of a flywheel on a car's launch
Could you please show your calculations here?I also think just as like you, because even small cars with engines 1.0-1.2 or so can produce tire spin at high RPM easily. Moreover, when you shift up to second gear a bit faster, you can still hear a tiny hiccup. So they must be providing a huge amount...- Emre

Automotive The effect of a flywheel on a car's launch
Hello,I have been searching for a good answer but I couldn't find any. Let's say a car's engine is producing 200 Nm of torque throughout its entire range.since gear ratios and tire radius are fixed,it must provide the same amount of wheel force in a gear. So,theoretically, whatever RPM you launch...- Emre

Automotive Understanding the Impact of Rapid RPM Change on Torque
Hello,I've read somewhere that during launch rapid change of RPM causes an increase in torque? What is the point of this?İs that the reason why cars tend to make tires slip when we try to launch at very high RPM?The extra torque added to engine torque?- Emre

Question regarding peak torque in first gear
You confused me a bit.Let me ask the question by illustrating my car. It has My car produces 90 hp at 4000 RPM and 200 Nm torque between 1750-3000 RPM.If I wanted to haul some timber with my car and increased the weight, would it be better for me to launch between 1750-3000 RPM since this...- Emre

Calculating wheel torque from engine torque
Thanks for the answer. But for many cars when you are close to peak hp RPM at launch, tire spins become too much in comparison to peak torque RPM.Then why do this happen?- Emre

Question regarding peak torque in first gear
Hello,I have been trying to wrap my mind around this question for a long time.So I thought it is best the way to share it with you. For a given car speed, the greatest acceleration comes when we are at peak horsepower RPM.This is true for any gear except the first gear.Because in any other...- Emre

Calculating wheel torque from engine torque
What about accelerating in first gear from a dead stop?It makes sense that the max achievable acceleration comes when we choose the gear corresponding to max horsepower RPM at a given speed. But what can we say when the speed is 0?I mean, why don't we choose the max torque RPM for a dead stop for...- Emre
